Virgin Mobile Screwing Charities?

Whilst taking a leak the other day at the Odeon I noticed a sign for The British Forces Foundation where you basically send a text which costs £3 to donate.

It read

Quote:
Text Heroes to 70099 and buy one of our deserving heroes a welcome home drink. Text messages cost £3 plus one message at your standard network charge. The British Forces Foundation will receive a minimum of £2.67 (£2.25 from Virgin Mobile Users) from each message sent
Why are Virgin keeping more money than everyone else?

I know its a business and all that but taking money from a charity.

Anyone shed light into why?

Re: Virgin Mobile Screwing Charities?

At a guess? Virgin Mobile are MVNO, so for anything like a text message have to pay T-Mobile (who's network they operate on) as well as cover their own costs

Ignoring the Virgin puzzle for a minute, when you donate your £3 somebody is creaming off at least 33p. Who and why - that's the question. Obviously this scam is run by an 'agent'.

To buy a British serviceman or woman a drink text HEROES to 70099. Texts cost £3 plus your standard network rate. From most users BFF will receive over £2.90 from each text donation with a minimum of £2.40 received dependant on your network operator. **Donations from handsets registered in UK and Northern Ireland only.
