TiVo space doubled
My brother has had his TiVo space doubled overnight. He was on the verge of being full. Has anyone any idea why this has happened and if he will be charged extra?

Re: TiVo space doubled
The space on TiVo is fixed.
What makes you think his space has doubled?
It may be that TiVo has performed some space management and deleted a lot of stuff.

Re: TiVo space doubled
He may find that some of his shows are missing if he doesn't set his recordings to 'Keep Until I Delete' so it will delete them automatically

Re: TiVo space doubled
There is no facility for the total space to change, short of having a 500GB box physically replaced by a 1TB one. Either the software has miscalculated the space available, or some recordings have been deleted without him being aware.
I'd suggest a reboot for starters. If recordings have been deleted, Recording Hiccups should say why.
edit: Just re-read your post. If it's gone from (say) 99% full to 98% full, that's normal. The free space varies because the size of the time-shift buffers varies, depending on the bit-rate of the channels it is tuned to.

Re: TiVo space doubled
He assured me no programmes have been lost. His box was the 'half size' model. The change went from 98% to 49%.

Re: TiVo space doubled
Has he checked the 'recently deleted' folder? The box may have emptied that as he was nearly full.

Recently Deleted isn't counted in the used space. Nor are Suggestions.

Re: TiVo space doubled
Ok but when I go into the deleted folder why does it say on the right 'when space is needed for new recordings, shows in recently deleted are permanently deleted'?

What would you expect it to say? I have at times had to recover a file from the deleted folder so its just giving you a reminder that recordings here aren't secure.

It isn't counted in the amount of space shown as percentage used, however, it obviously does take up actual space on the hard drive.
