'Bongo Land' Comment Sparks UKIP Racism Row
I dont agree with his Bongo Bongo land comment, but i do agree we should not be giving money out to other countries when we are cutting money and services to our people. This will not stop me voting UKIP at the next election due to there stance on stopping our giving money willy nilly to other countries and there stance on a ECHR.
Quote:
"To buy Ray-Ban sunglasses, apartments in Paris, Ferraris and all the rest of it that goes with most of the foreign aid. F18s for Pakistan. We need a new squadron of F18s. Who's got the squadrons? Pakistan, where we send the money."
A UKIP spokesman told the newspaper Mr Bloom's comments were being "discussed right at the very highest level of the party".
Later in the speech, but in the same video displayed on the Guardian's website, he says in reference to the ECHR ruling: "You can torture people to death but you jolly well can't give them a full life sentence because that's against their human rights.
"We can't hang them because we're now a member of the European Union and it's embedded in the treaty of Rome.
"It's a personal thing, but I'd hang the *******s myself.
He said: "What's wrong with that? I'm not a wishy-washy Tory. I don't do political correctness. The fact that the Guardian is reporting this will probably double my vote in the north of England."

He expresses the views of rather more people than you might be comfortable with. Be very careful who you're calling a nut job - just because the left/liberal consensus has pretty much fixed what is acceptable for anyone in the public eye to say, or not say, does not mean that other points of view have gone away, especially outside of the relatively few parts of the UK which are genuinely multi-cultural to any significant degree.

that's a rather hasty generalisation. the views of one member of a group does not mean it applies to all members. I believe you'll find many stories on racist tory party members, labour party members and lib dem party members.
not so sure?
lib dems
labour
conservatives
by no means do any of the above stories mean the entire party share the same views.
what I find annoying is that instead of writing a story about the concerns he has raised (e.g., sending money abroad when the UK is struggling itself), the media gets all caught up in a phrase he used. granted he should not have used it, but should we not really be concentrating on the issue of sending / not sending aid abroad?

UKIP have had more than the average of this type of horrible person in their ranks. Sexism, homophobia, rascism all there.
The nastiest nasty party yet.

I still think that's the BNP. Although I am starting to see the distinction between the two lessen.

I take your point but did not want to dignify the BNP with the benefit of being a proper party but I suppose sadly they must be considered so....

Could you identify the sexism, racism and/or homophobia in Bloom's comments this morning?

all there as in within the party as in google ukip and you will find the stories.
sorry if the phrase "all there" was taken to mean this morning's ludicrous use of that offensive term by this chap.

to be fair, you could probably say the same about any street in any country, which will have far fewer 'members' than any mainstream political party.

Exactly. It's far too cheap and easy to respond "google it" when being called out over a lazy generalisation.
There are racists, sexists and homophobes in all walks of life. Bloom may be any or none of them, and his words this morning don't demonstrate anything, one way or the other.

Re: 'Bongo Land' Comment Sparks UKIP Racism Row
Oh dear, everybody is frothing at the mouth because someone used the term "Bongo Bongo Land" and then completely ignoring the fact that hard earned tax payers money is being used to line the pockets of petty officials in said lands just so our pompous, up themselves politicians can strut their stuff on the World stage.
Has everybody been so brainwashed by this namby pamby need to not offend anybody so that it takes precedence over just about everything else?
Whatever happened to the "sticks and stones........" mantra.
