Windows 10 cannot repair hard disk errors
Our computer restarted the PC and it said it was trying to repair the hard disk errors and said it could not repair them.
Any help would be appreciated as currently we cannot use the PC due to this.

While not used Win 10 on my home machine, can it not be run on safe mode?

Re: Windows 10 cannot repair hard disk errors
when you start it up, is it trying to do a chkdsk ?
do you have a windows 10 dvd/usb? with a bit of luck you can boot doing that and get it to repair.
it may just need a chkdsk /f/r which you can do I think from the rescue.
I've had my machine not start, used the rescue option to "fix this pc if windows won't start", waited ages and it's been fine. so fingers crossed for you.
when you get it working, look in eventvwr so you can see if there are any hardware errors, or whether it was just a case of an important file getting corrupt.

Re: Windows 10 cannot repair hard disk errors
Den, if you're seeing hard disk errors at this point then it's only going to get worse.
I would seriously consider backing up your important files and getting the drive replaced before it's too late.

Sadly from what our brother has said the hard drive has totally broken down and Windows cannot repair it in any way at all as we have tried everything thus a PC doctor will be coming to look at it as it is beyond our very limited skills.

We did back up our files Uncle thankfully before the hard drive went belly up.

Re: Windows 10 cannot repair hard disk errors
If it's still within warranty (usually 1 or 3 years) you can usually get a replacement from the company.

Judging from the description, I'd say its already too late, sounds like the drive is dead.

Re: Windows 10 cannot repair hard disk errors
This could perhaps have been avoided if Windows had a native HDD S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) monitoring app. Unfortunately it doesn't.
You could disable the company logo on post, enable S.M.A.R.T. in the BIOS and get an OK or failure warning giving you time to back up or clone the drive.
or
There's this free app which can be set up to monitor continuously or just warn you at the end of boot.

Personally I use this paid for one. http://www.hdsentinel.com/

Re: Windows 10 cannot repair hard disk errors
Obviously we have to replace the hard drive which one would you suggest? as the one in there currently is a Seagate Barracuda 2TB

If 2TB is all that's required then one of these would be ideal and increase performance.
