Virgin 200 internet, currently getting 60
Hi all,
I pay virgin for the 200MB service and am currently getting 60Mb /s on the wifi as I sit next to the super hub 2ac which is in my home.
As I am not getting the product which I pay for, would it be worth phoning virgin up? Ideally would like the full speed, if not a reduction in the price i pay would be what I expect!
Advice appreciated!
Many thanks

..or it could be worth checking if your device is capable of going any faster.
Perhaps the problem lies with your equipment and not with Virgin Media's service?

Any chance you can test using a wired connection?

Currently using an iPhone 7. As far as I am aware I think that would be capable of achieving the higher speeds. At this point in time unfortunately cannot do a wired connection.

Then you don't know what speed you are being supplied. Wireless isn't guaranteed by any ISP.
Until you can test with a wired connection you'll never know.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I'll have to bring my laptop back from work and try a Ethernet connection. If it's low then I'll know there's a supply issue.

Why are you paying for 200Mbit just to use it with your iPhone?
But yes, as others have said, Wireless is a crapshoot.

60 is about right for 2.4ghz. Have you tried 5g?

Re: Virgin 200 internet, currently getting 60
Is there anyway to get the superhub to work between the two bands? My dad has a superhub 3 and this is not listed as separate 2G and 5G bands, whereas my 2ac model broadcasts different bands?
Thanks for all the advice so far

You can re-name the two bands in SH3, so 2.4GHz and 5GHz have separate names. That means you can be certain which network you are connecting to.

Re: Virgin 200 internet, currently getting 60
Hi all, done a cabled connection today and I am currently getting 125Mps. i have phoned up virgin and was put through to a fault department who did some checks but this has not resulted in an increased speed. Is this an unacceptable level to be getting on the 200 package?
I've also noticed that on the back of the router I have a 6db forward path attenuator? Could this be having an impact?
Thanks

Re: Virgin 200 internet, currently getting 60
I am on 100mb/s and currently get around 25 mb/s. I ran the test on the VM site and it failed a few times advising me to calll them so I rang up. I was told that there was a problem in my area that was due to be fixed in 10 days. I didn't believe him to be honest, I think I was being fobbed off. He tried to placate me by sending me an Ethernet cable! Hilarious..
My area still hasn't gone through the speed upgrades. The message on my account now says Feb 2017. This message has previously shown Oct 15, Nov 15, Dec 15 then Feb to Apr 16 then Feb to Apr 17. I am really not holding my breath. When the speed upgrades were announced we were told that they would be completed in 3 months much faster than previously. But then what is the point if they can't supply the original promised speed?
I have a £10 pm discount on my BB only account, glad I am not paying full price for this. VM has defo gone downhill in the last 18 months, well in my area anyway (North Worcestershire). I feel yet another complaint letter coming on....
