VM announce Q1 2008 results

Summary here and the official looooong press release here. Good to see the V+ penetration continues to grow impressively - now what about some more HD services for those 300k customers to enjoy??

Churn is the loss of customers.

Re: VM announce Q1 2008 results

As harmitage says, it is lost customers as a percentage of the base - if you have a quarterly churn of 1.2%, that means you are losing 12,000 in every million customers in that quarter.

But it reflects turnover of customers so factors in adds and deletions from the customer base.

Re: VM announce Q1 2008 results

Good results, not quite turning the corner but they are doing well in a competitive market and customers seem happy to stay and take up extra services. They certainly have bounced back from the Sky basics argument.

And to keep that figure as low as possible, they give the customer a retention deal.
Then that customer is treated as a new customer in the figures. all changes of packages are classed as new customers.

That could account for the £49 million drop in total revenue since the last quarter. people are given £10 off here and £20 off there

Re: VM announce Q1 2008 results

Surely they would have to count it as either a retained customer or a new customer or is this false accounting. If they offer you a deal are you then logged as left, therefore increasing churn, and then reconnecting as a new customer? - thereby falsely inflating new additions.

That's not right. You never officially leave, You ring to leave but they offer you discounts, better bundles etc to keep you. They add it to your monthly bill. You never officially leave so you would not be included in their churn. Churn is for actual customers who have left their services.

Re: VM announce Q1 2008 results

I see, I think. So if VM report they have 1000 new customers, it might be 1 new customer and 999 retentions?

Re: VM announce Q1 2008 results

NO! Far from it. you wouldn't even be factored into those figures. I think GaryL thinks that becuase you agree to a new contract if you accept a offer you are then classed as a new customer which is just totally incorrect.

If you leave and come back withing a month your not even classed as a new customer.

Sorry but I am right. and how can you leave and come back within a month and not be classed as a new customer? that would benefit the figures so it's highly unlikely that they would want it the way you propose it happens.
