Has anyone seen/heard the Vulcan yet?

No - despite living somewhere very quiet, but fairly near to Baginton airport, I waited in the garden with my ears peeled (they pricked up at anything from an air ambulance approaching to a neighbour deciding to mow the lawn )

I'm glad for you

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

Did the 'Vulcan Experience' today, visited her in the hangar at Robin Hood Airport (ex RAF Finningley).

http://www.vulcantothesky.org/appear...aft-tours.html

Well worth doing to get up close:

It's worth doing just to support the effort to keep her in the air. There's a projected £800,000 shortfall over the next 12 months...

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

Thanks for sharing

Yep definitely worth keeping in the air!

Shame they can't do the same with Concorde, some of it is to do with fact Concorde was supersonic.

The real crime is though that I read a while back a team of ex Concorde engineers actually got most of the electrics up and running and restored the hydraulic systems on the Manchester Concorde. Because they found the hydraulics hadn't been drained completely which preserved it.

The airport initially supported it, then 1 day out of the blue pulled the plug and said stopped it all on the grounds of health and safety before ordering them to drain the hydraulics which effectively wrote the aircraft off in terms of future restoration as it was just luck it wasn't completely drained the first time.

Shame, but I'm guessing there was more to it than just health and safety and bet BA had a hand in it when they got word.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

Thanks for the photos Cobby.

I remember seeing her in Bruntingthorpe in the hangar when she first started being repaired and then taxi runs.
Was lucky to see her over Cosby a few weeks ago too.

It is great to see such an amazing aircraft being looked after.

Just wish someone was doing the same with a Concorde.

Agreed, unfortunately due to BA essentially still owning the aircraft not likely to happen anytime soon unfortunately.. BA has been the obstacle

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

F-BTSD, The Concorde at Le Bourget in Paris is in the best condition as far as I know.

It has several fuctioning systems still, however it is highly unlikely that it will ever fly again for many reasons.

Britain's only flying Cold War Vulcan bomber will take its final flight next year before being grounded because of soaring restoration costs.

After a multimillion-pound fundraising scheme, Avro Vulcan XH558 was restored in 2007 and given a certificate of airworthiness before appearing at more than 60 air shows.

But The Vulcan to the Sky Trust has announced that 2013 will be the final flying season for the aircraft based at Doncaster's Robin Hood Airport.

Yes it was announced on Friday by the trust.

Once again the Daily Fail gets it wrong...it's because the airframe needs work to keep it compliant with the standards, and they only have the engines that are currently install to fly with. Nothing to do with restoration costs...they've done that!
