I think they know exactly what they are doing with regard to HD. They are just trying to confuse the opposition!
I think the strategy is to give us the terrestrial HD channels and the rest of HD programming will come from VOD.
The delay in giving us ITV HD and Channel 4 HD may have something to do with the strictly limited HD content at the moment on both of these channels (and also ITV are helping to promote Freesat by giving that platform an exclusive honeymoon period).
I suspect we will be getting Channel 4 HD fairly soon now and maybe ITV HD at the turn of the year(ish).

Partially right, the delay was caused by Channel4 signing an exclusive deal to Sky for channel4 HD when it first launch and ITV signed an exclusive deal with Freesat. Exclusivity boosts numbers for both parties this way. Once these deals comes to an end we will then see more HD added. BBC couldn't sign such exclusive deals because it's run on licence payers money, therefore couldn't with hold the channel from people who pay to fund it.

it was not a exculsive deal with sky for channel 4 hd, what it was was using encypotion so cant go to freest yet, channel 4 have already said virign have the option to carry the channel if they choose to, until now thye have choose not to.

so this means VM have turned down Channel 4 HD and also turned down a partnership with Setanta for Setanta Sports HD too IIRC, might be wrong on the Setanta story

You're completely wrong on the Setanta story i think you have just made that up Setanta have no intention on launching HD services yet. Virgin certainly haven't refused it. Last we heard Setanta accused Sky of preventing them and they could never prove it.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV
Setanta do currently broadcast in HD but only to their overseas, mainly North American, market. They do have the cameras, etc for HD broadcasting so there are obviously other commercial concerns preventing them from making HD broadcasts available to us.

people say that but if VM had some VM exclusive channels then this could help to encourage peopel to switch from Sky to VM, if Vm only ever has the same channels then it won't encourage many people to move from Sky
