Thumbs up Free Sky Sports Weekend 2011

The other thread on this forum is about the one day free last year.

This year it's free from 6am Saturday Sept 24 until 6am Monday Sept 26.

The premier/championship league football on offer is:

Man City v. Everton

QPR v. Villa

Cardiff v. Leicester

(ESPN have the Stoke v. Man Utd game)

Should be good, although as a Villa fan I probably wont feel the same way at 6pm on Sunday.

Edit: Heres a link http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...178416,00.html

Re: Free Sky Sports Weekend 2011

Surprise surprise, no 3pm kick offs on SS channels.
And they wonder why people continue to stream games/events off the internet, or pubs want to show them via (cheaper) foreign satellite services.

Not really a surprise as they aren't allowed to show any 3pm games.

There are plenty of live 3pm kick offs without having to resort to subscribing to SS.
However it does involve you having to physically find your way to your local football stadium.
On the plus side it's in 3D and you don't have to wear glasses.

As simple as turning on the channel during the period it's free, even if it's not on your package? On Virgin Media surely not!

Don't think many people will be impressed with the sky sports 2 hd channel watching the match as it's done nothing but pixel-ate. Noticed this happening on a lot of the hd channels this last week.

Re: Free Sky Sports Weekend 2011

Sadly this is the drawback of having all streams in MPEG-2 for backward compatibility with all the STB CPEs on the VM network. The trick is to enable the MPEG noise filter on your TV if you have one, just at a low setting so you don't get lots of smearing. That helps. Also, you're probably more likely to notice aliasing like that if your TV has a 100hz refresh rate or above, because superior motion compensation on those sets shows up blockiness caused by fast camera motion in sports like F1.

Re: Free Sky Sports Weekend 2011

Match Choice doesn't seem to work for me. I get a 'Not Authorised' message and then Sky Sports 2 stopped working with the same message. I had to change to a different channel and back again to fix it. I assume it's a Free Weekend limitation.
