Anywhere worth a visit within reasonable distance of Leeds? I was thinking a day trip sort of thing.

Re: Places to go
The only 2 places I know in the Leeds area are the General Hospital (not recommended)
and Elland Rd... nice people there.
I'm no help at all am I?

Ta, bopdude.
I live at the back of Elland Road Stadium, scuzz - you should see match days
I want to get out a bit - change of scene, matthew. Taking a week off after this pay day - recharge my batteries a bit. My mate does the driving, I navigate. We've been to the Peak and the Lake Districts. My mate mentioned Stone Henge - "what's there". Stones, I replied

That's why I was there, and in the pub over the road from the ground, when um... CCFC were in the um... premiership.
Lovely sunny day, nice local people. I think we lost .
Oooo - bit of a drive but Stonehenge sounds great.

Re: Places to go
The Peacock. The fans tend to make a lot of noise and mess, and the police tend not to police beyond the area immediately around the ground. They (the fans) also use the area as a car park, which means quiet streets suddenly have a procession of cars hurtling down them. Not good for the little ones. Anyway... places of interest
Stone Henge would just have stones - can't imagine there's much else to see

Re: Places to go
High force is ok but when was the last time you went there bop? You have to pay, theres a path all the way to it and only an observation deck now. When I was younger you could properly explore the area. That said we had a nice picnic last year when we visited it.

20 odd years ago strange you should say that, went to Hamsterly Forrest last year, for the first time in 20 odd years, and that had paid for car parks I had no idea and as such didn't have a penny on me, well why would you take a wad into the woods the lad saw the funny side and let me park anyway. The dogs loved it

Re: Places to go
I had a good day at Bolton Abbey last year, you might have already been?
Just incase, here's the web address and how to find it.
Quote:
Finding Bolton Abbey
Bolton Abbey is located just off the A59 in between Skipton and Harrogate, easily accessible from major roads and railways.
Bolton Abbey is seven miles from Skipton along the A59, seventeen miles from Harrogate along the A59 and twenty three miles from Leeds via A65 through Ilkley and Addingham.
Admission is free to visitors travelling by public transport.

Maybe we're looking back on our yoof with a soft focus, but methinks that the countryside has become a tourist attraction. Way over-commercialised. I just want to have a walk somewhere and generally be left to wonder. Quietly. As I posted in another thread, Golden Acre Park was full of townies letting their kids and dogs run amok, and Newmillerdam was pretty much the same. Big piles of dog crap everywhere.
I like the idea of Bolton Abbey. It's not far from Aysgarth Falls - I can relive my youth a bit

Re: Places to go
You may not like crowds but in Middleham on Good Friday they open all the racing stables to the general public.
Link
A good day out if you get there early!

Re: Places to go
We've done the Lakes - tested the clutch to the limit with Hardknott Pass
Mancs. I don't like it. Not sure why but it has a feel to it that I just don't like. Canal Street is over-commercialised and the straights have invaded. It's basically an open air zoo for them - come spot the queen/tranny/puff. Maybe give it a good kicking later when the lager's taken effect.
London. Lot of people. They're generally not very nice - people, that is.
