Yeah, I'm wondering about that as as well - not complaining, if course.

Talking Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

Well it seems that i had to call virgin to get my upgrade, The double speed site said my area was ready on 31st Dec but as of 30 mins ago i was still on 50mb, I just called them, told them the area was ready, they looked it up and saw it was so sent the new config file down the line and within seconds my modem restarted and i'm now on 100mb
Happy chappy, although i am using the old modem so if i want to go above 92mb i'll need to buy the superhub

The Modem isn't the issue, it'll be the router you're using - guessing the netgear or D-link Virgin supplied? Either way, it probably doesn't have gigabit ports which you'll need to see 100MBit+.
Look around, people on 120MBit are using that Modem just fine.

Plug your machine directly into the modem and see.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

It seems to me that getting you to activate the doubling of speed ties you in on a new contract for 12 months, but as far as I am concerned up to 20 is more than the 12 to 14 I am getting

You may add to or reduce the services you receive from time to time by contacting our customer services team. If you ask us to provide any extra services to you, you agree to accept those additional services for at least the minimum period that applies to them. If you ask us to reduce your tier of services within the minimum period for those services, we may ask you to pay a fee depending on the services being reduced and the remaining length of the minimum period

The minimum period that you must keep a service, starting from the service start date or such other minimum period as you have agreed with us. For example, unless you are told otherwise by us, you must keep the phone service, the television service and the Internet access service for 12 months from the service start date in each case and, in the case of other services, for at least 30 days. We may change the minimum period for any service but this will not affect you if you have already subscribed to that service.

Wean the standard is released with final 802.11 Working Group approval in late 2013. you may find out you can't use most of the new 802.11ac products as you are using 802.11ac (draft 2.0) and does your PC have 2.0 USB if see so the top speed it can do is 480 Mbit/s and there is only two usb out for 802.11ac but as i said if you have usb 2.0 is no good

By the time you actually get to use it you could buy the same thing for 75% less and will probably need a new one anyway since draft gear is typically crap.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

The double speed upgrade was announced over a year ago....spare a thought for the poor customers who will have to wait yet another half a year to actually get it, making it a year and a half wait. Coincidently the same time it took for VM to upgrade my upload speed after announcing it.

The timescale was made quite clear in the original press release on the 11th Jan 2012 - so all of 3 days past a year for it being announced.

With the mass roll-out starting in February 2012, the upgrade programme will continue over 18 months and is expected to be complete by mid 2013.

Oh i'm not doubting they made it clear this time as there were a few complaints regarding the original upload speed upgrade timescale which said 'over summer' or something similar and then ended up being the summer after. So no complaint for me that their press release said these upgrades would be over 18 months. Was just expressing my sorrow for those still waiting

My original statement of over a year was correct then, thanks for verifying that

Pity that they did not setup nationwide before saying anything & then "switch on"
