A friend of mine has a Virgin Media connection and one of their modems. Since a power cut last week and since them has been getting intermittent and sporadic disconnections which resolve themselves quite quickly but are obviously are annoying.

Tried switching it off for 30 seconds, not luck.
Any ideas?
Potentially the power cut has had an adverse effect on the power supply and/or batteries in you main node. As a result, there may be other power glitches to this main cabinet and the aformentioned supplies are not holding up the amps. Can you look at your cable modem logs (http://192.168.100.1) and see any errors with TRC-SYNC/FEC errors?
