Question Overclocking

Hi all,

Can anybody here (hello Zing!) give me the basics of how to overclock my PC?

It's currently a AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core CPU 4600_ 2.41GHz / 2GB RAM

I've read some stuff on overclocking but not too sure what to change - not changed anything yet - don't want to risk damaging anything!

Are there any programs I can download that tell me what I could possibly change and what performanc increase I could obtain?

Cheers

Lee

Re: Overclocking

you seriously aint gonna get much out of that above stock.

Watch the cooling

Drop the ram speed first then up the FSB bit my bit and if need be up the vcore once you get a stable overclock on the cpu you can play with the ram. I wouldnt really bother to much though

Is it AM2 or SKT939 neither are good overclockers though

If you are possibly considering an upgrade and want to stay with AMD go with a Balck Edition chip as these are multiplier unlocked

Re: Overclocking

One of the reasons I got an Nforce board many years ago, just run NTUNE on it and it tests all the overclocking for you...

Re: Overclocking

Umm that's intresting - just loaded up a load of apps and noticed that:

CPU Utilization
CPU #1 / Core #1 0 % - Did not change at all..
CPU #1 / Core #2 1 % - Went up to 99% and back down to 2%

Core #1 not working....??

Just make sure that you keep an eye on ALL of the temps whilst doing it..

Re: Overclocking

i think you will manage to get it to about 2.7ghz maybe abit more but amd's don't overclock to well, especially the older dual core's as far as i know.

but it's worth a try although you probably won't notice a difference unless you manage above 3.0ghz.

good luck with it.

Well Ntune will overclock your CPU, FSB, GPU and Mem It steps each one a little at a time until the system becomes unstable then on the reboot it drops it back slightly, the only problem is that it doesn't monitor the temps so you may need to step them back a bit further or make sure youve got a really, really, really decent active cooling system on your CPU, chipset, Memory and GPU's
