Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Well done. My happy thought is that finally the week from hell is over. Eyesight problem gone, hay fever settled down, and migraine free for a few days. Excellent.

Not yet, not had much free time since we arrived. Going to do some wandering tomorrow. We're staying in the Vdara and I'm watching the fountain at the Bellagio from our window as I type.

If you like cars, then the museum under the Imperial Palace is quite good. Fremont Street at night, The Luxor is neat too, so are all the others basically. There's so much to do and see so I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you do.
During the day it's all a bit surreal, but at night it is an amazing place.
If you're not venturing away from Vegas then I'd highly recommend the Vegas to Grand Canyon helicopter tour, once in a lifetime trip.

Went to Fremont Street last night, old fashioned Vegas. Done the Grand Canyon today, just waiting for Mrs G to get out of the shower then we're planning to go to New York New York and try the rollercoasters, I want to try the zipwire from the top of the Stratosphere but Mrs G doesn't feel the same way!
Thanks for the suggestions, here till Friday with a couple of free days so keep them coming.
Cheers
Grim

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Had an excellent weekend - drive down to Hampshire Friday night, back yesterday afternoon for a get-together with family.
We had relatives from France, Switzerland, USA, Canada, and from all over England for my bro-in-law's belated 60th birthday celebrations - ate in a marquee in the garden, then spent the rest of the day in garden sports (swing ball, touch rugby, etc).
A good time was had by all.

So glad you had a nice time with your family Hugh.
Where about in Hampshire did you go as most of my family live there and later in the year our family intend to get together again.

Little place called Shalden Green, near Alton.
Additional happy thought - just returned the hire car (Ford Galaxy, as we needed room for six and luggage); I got nearly 45 miles to the gallon for the 550 mile round trip result!

Yes we remember Alton well as its railway is part of The Watercress Steam Railway Line which the whole family visited about a year and a half ago.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Plenty of overtime at hubby's work, after being told jobs were unsafe "and the worry it caused our household" they made cutbacks and now they need to offer the remaining employees overtime as the manpower ain't there no more to meet the needs of contracts etc. Sad for those who lost their jobs, glad it was not hubby's but tbh it makes no sense to me as the work is obviously there.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Unfortunately these days it is all about profit and the bottom line. More people to pay equals less profits equals job cuts equals existing staff have to work harder for longer for little or no extra pay to keep standards up.
Store I was at for work placement last year now exists on a bare skeleton of paid staff and apparently he rotates people on work placement every 8 weeks. Takes 8 on, and then in last week of their placement gets a new wave inducted ready to take over for a fresh cycle.
Still, they are opening up a new store in the same town and will be looking for quite a few warehouse people, manager has promised to put in a good word for me if I apply for the job once they get a store manager in place.

Some work I quoted for on a good client has just come in. Purchase order for £4K's worth, delivery on 1st August. When that's invoiced and paid, serious toy time.
