Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
You state that Virgin Media will scrap Analogue completely by 2010, this isnt possible and will take much longer if it is to keep serving Westminster,Milton Keynes and parts of Southampton.
The analogue network in Westminster and Milton Keynes is proving very difficult to upgrade and will be a lengthy process. So your looking at 2015 to 2020 unless it closes down the franchises.
Also in my area ex-telewest bordering westminster, there are alot of customers still using Analogue,Digital has been available since 2001 in this area but they dont want to upgrade!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
don't forget there is the governement digital switch over project, not sure what the end date is for that but I thought it was 2012, could be wrong. Once that has finished there won't be an analogue signal for VM to provide.

The analogue only areas will be dropped from what i remember reading. the areas where analogue is and digitial is available people will b given the choice upgrade or loose your tv signal since they will swithc it off anyway.

Anyhoo, missing out on new channels at VM is becoming way too regular, and more than a little irritating.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Channels for Cable [and Sky on cable ?] are changing names and Cable numbers so fast that I have given up keeping up. Where then can I find the latest listing that I can understand - please.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
I dont understand why Discovery doesnt work with Virgin Media,Smallworld,Wight Cable and Tiscali more closely than Sky, Fox/sky is a large broadcasting competitor of Discovery.
Furthermore, has anyone noticed? Virgin 1 on freeview starts at 6pm! They must be loosing advertising revenue over this! Why not broadcast it 24 hours!
And with regards to Analogue switchoff, there is a big problem in Westminster,Most properties you are not allowed to have outdoor Aerials and satellite dishes, therefore if the westminster franchise was to close, people are going to have no TV!
Even with Tiscali TV or BT Vision, you still need an aerial!
BT wont like it if Virgin Media closes down the franchise as they will loose there tennant!
What if BT takes over the customer base again and upgrades the network themselves, however, they will have to stop selling BT Vision products in these areas for competition reasons.
And is not possible to rebroadcast Digital channels down Analogue signals???

When Virgin Media signed an deal in Febuary 2007 with Discovery they only has 13 channels in the UK and Ireland but since then Discovery has started up new channels - See post one for the list.
So if Virgin Media wants to carry the new Discovery channel they can BUT they will need to axe one of the Discovery own channels on the network right now.
Virgin Media last did this in Oct. when Watch started up - they axe UKTV History +1.

Tiscali tv use IPTV which menas they can get it because they have broadband access i believe bt vision is iptv as well not sure though
No it is not possible the area needs upgrade if no one will fund it then t is gone tv is not a neccessary and since all of uk is havig analogue switched off irign are under no obligation to keep providing it unless they want ot which is coslty for them because the equipment is very old and find spare parts isnt easy now

It never ceases to amaze me how the tiny amount of bandwidth on Freeview is used in the most utterly random ways. Whoever makes these decisions is clearly mentally unstable.
