Well I wasn't referring to us but yes the 'cuts' and all sorts of price increases are kicking in for many people. Thankfully we're not quite at that stage yet but plenty of people on low incomes are - like my elderly parents for example who survive on the very basic state pension. They don't even have the luxury of being able to use e.mail etc. so don't have a lot of choice. It's the poorest who these increases will affect most of all and that makes a mockery of what's supposed to be a universal service.

Re: Price controls on 1st class stamps lifted
I might not have a problem with this rise if it wasn't for the fact that not a single birthday or xmas card sent by us using RM in the last four years has arrived at the other end without holes in the envelope and quite blatent ones as well. Service is shocking far too much goes missing and don't bother complaining about it because pigs will be flying and hell will be having tobogan races before you get anywhere. Sorry used to be a big supporter of RM but not anymore their service is poor and the cost of it is getting stupid given the level of service.

Re: Price controls on 1st class stamps lifted
In the last 5 years, I only have used mail if I couldn't contact by email..i even use the phone before mail.
I only need someplace to pick up packages..otherwise, they don't do much for me.

RM not ruling out £1 stamp coming
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...ass-stamp.html
Problem is expect cartel will happen they know business/people need service whats to say private curriers shove prices up RM do the same they rips off more.
It happened in electricity/gas/water they know its just essensial.
This will cost jobs I fear as companies revue there costs. Especially small businesses.
On plus side we might just see end to junk mailshots.

Don`t bank on it. Royal Mail makes a fortune from delivering junk and companies that use it get big discounts.

Re: Price controls on 1st class stamps lifted
Years ago, you could count on the Royal Mail for deliveries, and two deliveries a day, and guaranteed FIRST class delivery the following day.
NOW, its totally farcical, IF you post a FIRST class letter, bet you SECOND class would beat it. I posted a first class letter to Scotland, and it took three days to get there.
What the Royal Mail don't tell you is that there is no need for second class post, The company l worked for used to do deep cleans on sorting offices, they had a spare room for second class mail, and they store it there for 24 hours before it is sent out.
WHY, dont they have ONE price, and settle on that.

If you think it is bad now, imagine what would happen if RM they were sold to lets say DHL
The government should have not opened up the post market in the first place, it was fine for the past 300+ years!

They didn't have any choice, they were compelled to by your beloved EU.

Quote:
Directive 2002/39/EC
On June 2002, the European Parliament and the Council formally adopted the Postal Directive (2002/39/EC), which amended the 1997 Directive. It required the European Commission to submit a report to the European Parliament and the Council by the end of 2006 assessing 2009 as an appropriate date for full market opening across the EU. The maximum area that could be reserved to a universal service provider was decreased to 100g from 1 January 2003 and to 50g from 1 January 2006, the intention still being to introduce full market opening when the Directive expired on 31 December 2008.
Directive 2008/06/EC
On 20 February 2008, the European Parliament and the Council adopted the Directive 2008/06/EC, which amended the initial Postal Directive 97/67/EC as amended by Directive 2002/39/EC by defining 21 December 2010 as a final step in the process of gradual market opening for the majority of member states. For some states this date has been extended until 2012, with a temporary reciprocity in such cases.

No, but then I doubt he would also be carrying potentially thousands of other letters in his vehicle that he can spread the costs amongst..
