At a guess, I think Sky didn’t want to let Virgin have it until they managed to roll out HDR on their own system. Virgin already have HDR capability, don’t they?

I've been thinking for a while that that's why their HD is only in Top Tier or extra for Sport, they don't want VM to go HD-only (for those that have HD versions) before them. They only went HD only for the Cinema channels on VM because it didn't justify it with the number of subscribers for those. Cinema isn't really a customer-winner these days.

Which wouldn't have made a difference one bit.

Re: UHD on Virgin Media
I don’t think for one minute that Sky would let Virgin viewers have any of their own channels to a higher spec definition than Sky satellite viewers. I do think this explains the delay.

They wouldn't need to and that's the point up until now Sky has been delivering UHD Football something it could have done irrespective of the fact that the Virgin Box is capable of HDR.
If VM had been allowed access how would they have had it in HDR when up until now Sky wasn't delivering it in HDR ?

Re: UHD on Virgin Media
Since the "start of the (English) football season deadline" has passed, if anything is coming the next obvious deadline is the Sky One-Sky Showcase/Max change. They may have decided to do all the upheaval/announcements at once rather than make a staggered set of changes.
