not really !!!
if the bandwidth is there get all the HD channels thats available. the better the choise the broader the customer base is you appeal to. i understand that if bandwidth is limited you need to be cereful of what you add and make sure that customers are happy with the choices but if its a case of limited bandwidth then get out out of the HD market, let Sky have it and move on. personally i dont think this is the case and its a case of VM just not putting a high enough value on HD channels and content which is wrong as the value of content is what the highest bidder is willing to pay and if its decent or popular content you cant just ignore it because the price is too high.
its alot like buying fooball player the better they are the more they cost and the sky is the limit its just a question of paying the price and making sure its a popular choice.

But would you prefer a team of 11 Superstars instead of a squad of 30 average players?

BSkyB is rebranding Virgin1, the general entertainment channel it acquired as part of a £160m deal to buy Virgin Media Television, as Channel One.

it all depends as superstars most of the time cant work well as a team and its all about individual gain.
atleast with a bigger number of players you can always find a decent team that work well together, and if you are lucky you will find a decent team can produce some stunning results.
more HD channels = more options that appeal to more people and keeps everyone happy.
limited number of HD channels = limited options and appeals to less people and you may find that although you like the ones available a number of people dont !!!

Most HD channels take a while to get up to full steam, look at ITV1, even the BBC can't quite manage it yet either. Also upscaled SD at the source via a professional video scaler costing thousands of pounds is going to be better then the scaler in your V+/V box. Over time C5 HD will acuire more and more HD content the hard part is getting the channel on the air.

Will they be sold - Yes
Will they be sold to Sky - Doubt it very much.
The 50% stake is more likely to be sold to a US network/private ownership etc. which I believe is BBC preferred option.
Will VM get HD channels - I'm sure as part of the deal they will also get access to HD channels.
I really don’t know what the whole fuss is about -VMTV and UKTV did not make VM a whole lot of money - anyone can see that from the Qtr results.
The channels cost a lot hence why VM have decided to sell up both elements.
VM are not in the business to own TV channels - if they were why did VM not release Virgin Movies to compete with Sky when VM launched
What difference does this actual make to us?

the difference it makes to us is that it looks like its another 2 HD channels we are not going to get along with :-
Hallmark HD
ESPNA HD
History HD
Nat Geo Wild HD
Bio HD
crime & investigation HD
and the rest Sky have that we dont.
so at the end of the day it makes a big difference (by 10 + HD channels).

Your source - tell me were it stats that we are not going to get ESPNA or the UKTV HD channels.
Or in fact any of the other HD channels. - We know that we have 5 more HD channels coming of which are Sky1 Sky Real Live 1/2 and Comedy Central.
More will follow so unless it states VM will NOT be getting these HD channels like it did with Sky Sports 3/4 then you can not presume these will not turn up.
A sale of the TV channel has nothing to do with if VM carry the SD/DH channel - complete seperate deal.

with no announcement from VM and the fact they are available on SKY customers have no option but to accept that we do not have them and until VM announce them we have to accpet that we may never get them.
we are not like you and MB who have inside information that you cant disclose. i like many others are just avarage customers who only know that until the channels are announced we have to accpet the fact that they are not available and may never be so.
until the channels are up and running on VM TV`s platform then just accept they may never come that what it seems to be like with VM.

I still have high hopes history hd will turn up sooner rather than later as it was reported testing last year,i still think when military history came history hd was part of the deal.
