Greenlight for world's biggest wind farm off Suffolk coast
http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2016-...suffolk-coast/
Yet, again. The landscape is going to be spoilt again, in Norfolk.
I go to Great Yarmouth each year. And stay at Scratby, by California Cliffs. And what gets in you view is these great eyesores.
What you want to see is the great views of the sea.
And now they plan more for Lowestoft.
How can they provide jobs, to install these, you need Skilled labour. Probably from overseas.
These windfarms are a pain, and am certain the great people of Norfolk, will complain bitterly about this.
Once again money, before the local residents

Well they are a good way to get energy and better for the environment.
They are thinking of the future.

Oh, so you're a NIMBY as well? Figures.
We need reliable sources of renewable energy, and off-shore wind is near guaranteed power and will pay for themselves easily over time. It's a win-win.
As for it being an eye-sore? Infrastructure is never pretty, but I rather like the look of the better designed turbines and besides, I value keeping the lights on than being able to look at er...blue stuff?
Anyway, I love how you manage to complain about mythical jobs from overseas as well. I'll give you credit, if you're a die hard WUM, you're pretty good!

The local residents will benefit..they will get a source of renewable energy that is environmentally better than coal or gas.Anyway why do so many think they are ugly?Everyone loves the old fashioned windmills that ground flour in the past. These are even more majestic than those.

I just love wind turbines.. They are just so beautiful and awe inspiring. Quite happy to see them off the coast, on a hill or would even be happy to see a wind farm next to the village.

Re: Greenlight for world's biggest wind farm off Suffolk coast
I have no problem with them out at sea - they have them off the Kent coast. I'm not sure how the economics stack up re inshore v. offshore but I wouldn't want to live near any.

Re: Greenlight for world's biggest wind farm off Suffolk coast
We're going to get a wind farm off the south coast soon here at Brighton consisting of 116 turbines and an offshore substation.
Quote:
The wind farm could produce enough electricity for about 300,000 homes.
During the three-year offshore construction period 250 to 300 jobs will be created, with 65 permanent jobs once it is fully operational with a base at Newhaven Port.

Re: Greenlight for world's biggest wind farm off Suffolk coast
There is a massive wind farm near Glasgow and its a great place to visit, lots of walks and things to do in the visitor centre too. Also busy with families and people walking their dogs, riding horses and mountain bikers too.
They really are amazing to look at as well.
Its apparently the UKs largest windfarm!

you've never been to great yarmouth then. On the main approach road to great yarmouth there are loads of the old windmills some still standing and some just piles of rubble. most likly build there for the same reason modern ones are going up just a couple of miles away (consistant wind).

When we went to Great Yarmouth a few years ago there were quite a few out at sea and it they were a lovely sight out there.

The problem wtih building windfarms onshore is that the most common places to put them (in open rural locations) usually don't have anything like the electricity grid infrastructure needed to connect them up. Meaning you impact on a considerably larger area of countryside than just the area directly taken up by the windfarm.
Personally, I don't mind windfarms on an aesthetic level, however I can't see the point of onshore wind from a technical perspective especially now that offshore wind (where its nice and blowy) is well proven.
