OAP'S fight back against local louts

what do people think of this ,are the oap's asking for trouble or are they doing the right thing and should more neighbourhood groups use tactics like this ? or is it the sort of thing that only the police should do ?

i for one think it's great that a group of people have the guts to do this

Armed with the latest surveillance equipment, they record anyone from litter louts to suspected drug dealers in an attempt to get them out of their area.
The St Peter's Neighbourhood Monitoring Group has videoed more than 100 offences in their part of Leicester, often passing the footage to the police or local authority as evidence.
Spokesman Albert Berer, 27, is the only man in the group. The other 10 members are women aged between 67 and 92.

Re: OAP'S fight back against local louts

Its all fine and well until someone gets hurt. Although generally people won't want to hurt a female OAP, drug dealers aren't usually known for respect and chivalry.

It should really be left the to police but there are only so many coppers and so many hours in the day so sometimes there will be vacuums.

When communities stick together they can do wonderful things but its difficult to get people to stick together. Especially in the face of violence.

Re: OAP'S fight back against local louts

The thing is that once you get the troublemakers and criminal activity off the doorstep you have to make sure that the area is claimed back by being used by the community.

kids only get into trouble when they are left to roam unsupervised and they have nothing constructive to do.It needs the community to give them options of constructive activities and parents should be persuaded into making sure their children attend youth clubs, music workshops, drama groups, football clubs, boxing etc not just let them wander the streets.
