CHAMPION jockey Tony McCoy said he is in for "a long winter" after he received a five-day whip ban at Ffos Las on Sunday.

"I feel sorry for the owners and a little for the sport, too, because I used to think the racing in this country was the best place to be riding in the world and you worry about what every other county in the world now thinks of you," he said.

TRAINER Paul Nolan is leaning towards running Noble Prince in Saturday's Paddy Power Gold Cup despite also entering his exciting chaser at Navan a day later.

"Things are still up in the air regarding where Noble Prince willrun at the weekend," said Nolan on Tuesday. "We're not ruling out the Fortria Chase at Navan on Sunday, but we are leaning towards Cheltenham.

Golden Bear Beginners' Chase (Class 4) 2m1½f, 4yo+

LAST season's Champion Hurdle runner-up Peddlers Cross sealed victory in his first chase in excellent fashion, jumping fluently under a conservative Timmy Murphy before effortlessly stretching clear on the run-in.

Peddlers Cross jumped with an assurance and composure that will have been hugely pleasing to connections and ante-post backers of the six-year-old.

THE BHA has announced further amendments to the new whip rules that have infuriated jockeys since they were introduced on October 10.

Bans for a first offence for one hit over limit are now two days from five, while two hits over the limit is five days rather than seven.

The changes will be implemented for the start of the three-day Open meeting at Cheltenham on Friday. Whip bans imposed since October 21 will be reappraised under the new penalty structure which means Tony McCoy's five-day ban is reduced to two days.

SOLWHIT has met with a setback and his chasing debut has been put on hold until early in the new year, according to trainer Charles Byrnes.

The seven-year-old was expected to start over fences sometime this month but Byrnes said on Thursday: "Solwhit has had a bit of a setback and it’ll be the other side of Christmas before he starts off over fences.

Opus Energy Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2) 2m½f Old course, 4yo+

STEPS TO FREEDOM made it three wins from three over hurdles when edging out Prospect Wells in a sprint finish up the Cheltenham hill.

Winning trainer Jessica Harrington said: "He's a very nice prospect and he might not even run before the Festival. He's been on the go all summer and has had three runs over hurdles and rather than drag his heart out over the winter we might just put him away.

HINTERLAND gave Paul Nicholls a second successive winner of the JCB Triumph Hurlde Trial on his British debut on Saturday.

Nicholls said: "He's been awesome at home in his work and he's done on the track what he does at home. He'll be a smart chaser one day. He could be a really good one.

“He ran really well, he was very realaxed on the shoulder of the leader, and he showed plenty of strength in the finish,” enthused Guyon, who was recording his fifth domestic Group 1 success of the season.

GREAT ENDEAVOUR gave trainer David Pipe his first victory in a race his father Martin won so often, charging home under Timmy Murphy

The victory saw Great Endeavour cut to6-1 favourite (from 20) for the Hennessy Gold Cup later in the month by William Hill, Boylesports and Coral.

Johnson said:"This has been my luckiest race, that's for sure. The Pipes have farmed the race and it was always the plan to come here. He was a bit unlucky last year when he got left at the start but Timmy has made up for it this year.

RESTLESS HARRY finished third on his chasing debut as Join Together gave Paul Nicholls and Ruby Walsh a treble at Cheltenham.

Nicholls said: "The ground's plenty quick enough for him but he stays and never gives up. [Ruby and I] both thought he'd nearly win. We always thought he'd make a nice chaser. He's slow and made a few mistakes and it was a masterful ride from Ruby.

TONY MCCOY cruised to an easy victory at Cheltenham on the Jonjo O'Neill-trained Galaxy Rock, beating the staying-on Ballyfitz and long-time leader Carruthers into second and third.

"Jonjo is an unbelievable trainer of staying chasers and we don't have many Saturday horses so it's important to take our chances," said McCoy.

Kyoto: Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup (Grade 1) 1m3f, turf, 3yo+ f/m

SNOW FAIRY (Ed Dunlop/Ryan Moore) completed back-to-back victories with a breathtaking performance under a truly brilliant ride to win the Queen Elizabeth IICommemorative Cup in Japan

She still had an enormous amount to do as the leader was swamped by Japanese stars Aventura and Apapane - both of them Classic winners - but Moore found a gap between horses and Snow Fairy powered home to overwhelm her rivals.

"Snow Fairy is a truly unbelievable filly and what a ride," said Dunlop, speaking on his website.

A wonderful performance by a mare who is a credit to her trainer.

HARRY DERHAM notched the biggest victory of his short career on Brampour, who is trained by his uncle Paul Nicholls, in the Greatwood Hurdle

"I've been coming here since I was 11, watching Ruby [Walsh] come in and seeing Paul train all these horses. To be part of it is all I've ever wanted to do. It really is a dream come true. I can't explain it, I'm in a daze."

Independent Newspapers Novices' Chase (Registered as the November Novices' Steeple Chase) (Grade 2) 2m, 4yo+

EIGHT months after he was roared up the Cheltenham hill as the winner of the Supreme Novices', Al Ferof returned to the scene of his greatest triumph to make a winning debut over fences and earn quotes as short as 5-1 for the Arkle.

Victor Chandler made Al Ferof their 6-1 second-favourite for the Cheltenham Festival race, against 11-2 for Peddlers Cross, while William Hill, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power all went 7-1. Stan James went shortest of all, making Al Ferof 5-1 second favourite.

BIG ZEB was on Sunday cut to 6-1 (from 7) with Boylesports for next year's Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham after he notched his third successive Fortria Chase for trainer Colm Murphy.

WORKFORCE, last year's Derby and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner, has been retired to stud as reported in Monday's Racing Post.

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to the owner, said: "He was an exceptional three-year-old and was one of only six horses to have completed the Derby and Arc double since the war.

Hong Kong: Marco Botti's stable star Excelebration is bang on target for next month's Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Mile after coming through an easy workout in Newmarket at the weekend.

Excelebration has been absent since getting another rear view of his old foe Frankel for a third time in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot last month.

FRANKEL added two more honours to his impeccable cv on Tuesday night when he was named Cartier Horse of the Year and three-year-old Colt of the Year.

Cirrus Des Aigles, trained in France by Corine Barande-Barbe and successful for the fifth time in a busy campaign when beating So You Think in the Qipco Champion Stakes, was named Champion Older Horse, while the Christophe Ferland-trained Dabirsim, who crowned an unbeaten five-race season with a spectacular win in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, picked up the top two-year-old colt award.

Danedream, the devastating winner of the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe for trainer Peter Schiergen and owners Gestut Burg Eberstein and Teruya Yoshida, fended off opposition from Classic winners Dancing Rain and Blue Bunting, as well as high-class miler Immortal Verse, to register a first success at the Cartiers for a German-trained horse in the three-year-old filly category.

RACING turned out in force on Tuesday to celebrate the life of Ginger McCain in the city that made him famous all over the world.

"To go to Liverpool [Aintree] five times and win three times and be second twice will never be done again."

And the late McCain himself had the perfect rebuttal to those who said all he did was train Red Rum.

"They said I was a one-horse trainer," he stated in an interview which was replayed during the service. "But what a bloody good job I made of that one horse."

WILLIE MULLINS said on Wednesday that Hurricane Fly, withdrawn from Sunday's Ladbrokes.com Morgiana Hurdle, may not return until the end of December.

He said: "I just wasn't happy with him, a few ofmine are a bit backward.

"He won't run again until I'm happy with him and at this stage I'm looking more at Christmas than the Hatton's Grace. I'm not bursting to get runs into him."

RACING must brace itself for more corruption allegations after trainers Elliott Cooper and George Prodromou, along with former apprentice Charlotte Kerton, were named on Wednesday among nine charged following two investigations.

The sport still awaits the outcome of the case in which Jimmy Quinn, Paul Doe, Greg Fairley, Kirsty Milczarek and jockey-turned-trainer Paul Fitzsimons face the prospect of lengthy bans if found guilty of passing information for reward and not riding a horse to obtain its best placing.

Prodromou and Kerton, 31, face a series of allegations including conspiring to commit a corrupt or fraudulent practice, passing information for reward, and preventing two horses - Timeteam and Trip Switch - from running on their merits at Lingfield in January 2010 in the knowledge both had been laid to lose.

Five unlicensed individuals have also been charged as part of the same disciplinary proceedings including Gary Banham, who was made the subject of an indefinite exclusion order earlier this year over his involvement in the Sabre Light affair, and Filippos Sergides, a former bookmaker in Cyprus who was living in a mobile home at Prodromou's Norfolk yard, and laid the horses. The others are Stuart Compton, John Hogan and Alexander Starret.

TRAINER Nicky Henderson enjoyed a fabulous Friday with five winners and three of those were cut for Cheltenham Festival glory.

The hugely impressive Simonsig got the ball rolling at Ascot and he is 8-1 (from 14) for the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle with Victor Chandler, who went 14-1 (from 20) for the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle.

Solix quickly followed up his stablemate on his chasing debut and is 16-1 for the Jewson Novices' Chase and 33-1 for the Irish Independent Arkle Chase.
