Sky will probably own exclusive rights for it.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. III

Here is an update on the Viacom story I broke today:

Media Boy EXCLUSIVE: Viacom to launch FIVE new channels on Virgin Media next month.

I have tonight been told that BET, BET +1, Comedy Central Extra +1 and NickToons Replay will all launch with Comedy Central HD on September 1.

NOTE: That time of posting I do not know they channel numbers.

Cheers for news Media Boy
I guess this explains why MTV decided to remove some channels as mentioned earlier

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. III

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster etc.

Personally I would trade MTV Classic for all 5 of those channels. I really do not see the logic in removing the one channel, who's content is not already covered elsewhere. VH1 does not play the same variety of music as MTV Classic does and appears to be playing more and more current chart pop music. Magic is only good if you like to watch the 100 top boy band songs, or 100 greatest movie soundtracks ad nauseam.

And until music on demand allows you to queue up videos to play one after another without having to keep going back to the menu, or provides the same vast library of music that MTV has, it will never be a substitute for a linear channel.

MTV+1 and MTV Shows content is already available on other channels, so their loss is understandable, and im sure BET will be a welcome addition for many people, as well as Comedy Central HD, but losing MTV Classic so they can add more +1 channels, crazy.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. III

Terrible - the new channels are pretty poor quality compared with what's being removed.

Really can't understand why Virgin/Viacom think that crap channels +1 add any sort of value to their service whilst cutting standard channels such as MTV Classics and MTV Shows.

I don't watch MTV Shows but rather that stays than a +1. I will sorely miss MTV Classics.

It must also be pretty embarrassing for Virgin and whoever negotiated their carriage agreements allowing Viacom to call the shots changing line-ups at their discretion and allow a music channel to be replaced by a +1 (a +1 of a crap channel at that!).

I would have thought that would be how most carriage agreements worked? The final say over whether/what channels a platform carried would be up to the people that make them

Looking at the schedule it doesn't seem that bad, like an alternative MTV.

If it's anything like BET in America expect everything shown on it to be heavily censored and cut to pieces.

In the US they showed The Wire and cut it to pieces, especially season 2 where they cut out most of the dock storyline and had it as a minor subplot and instead focused on the minor drug dealing arc in the season.

Is there any chance that ESPN-HD will launch on that same day MB?

As regards the loss of some MTV channels and the supposed "crap" replacements, some people might want to remember that channel choice is very subjective, I've no doubt at all that a lot of people would consider the MTV channels "crap" and that to them anything would be an improvement over them.
Don't forget folks "horses for courses" and "different strokes for different folks".
