Found this on VM website

The modems provided as part of the upgrade programme are enhanced and capable of receiving speeds of up to 400Mb.
My question is When will we be looking at speeds like this?

Re: VM capable of receiving speeds of up to 400Mb

No idea but don't hold your breath. It's a pretty pointless exercise, 120Mb will be adequate for pretty much everything and be quicker than the vast majority of BT's customer base. 200Mb is feasible for next year, 400Mb at consumer prices not likely, just as BT releasing 330Mb at consumer prices isn't likely.

The original cable modems were, in theory, capable of 38Mb. Was a very long time before they were delivering 20Mb using that technology.

Re: VM capable of receiving speeds of up to 400Mb

VM must have a similar special service up to 385 mb (perhaps not this service for everyone) ... like FTTH or FTTP (330 mbs speed)
i dont have any information about it but they gonna have to do something near to FTTP if they want to stay in the competition

EDIT

personal i find 80/20 (BT) more than enough for a normal heavy use of a household
good download and super upload that will manage everything using many apps at the same time
if VM get the upload of the 120/12 to 120/20 up will be an unbeatable service including TV for a large family
i personal prefer upload speeds

Indeed.

It's only with large file downloads that >100mbps makes a difference, but then there's also diminishing returns.

Take for example a typical 10GB high-def movie, downloading it at 100mbps vs 10mbps will save you over two hours. Going from 100 to 1000mbps will only save you 12 minutes.

>100GB downloads are pretty rare these days; they may happen eventually when high-def content in 4K or lossless formats become commonplace but not anytime soon. And lets not forget the headline speeds don't cater for the mass-market - 80% of VM customers are still on 10 or 20mbps.

Re: VM capable of receiving speeds of up to 400Mb

VM have no need to do anything to keep up with the 330Mb BT are going to release, it's probably not going to be at a mass market price but a high-end business broadband.
