but that is why ther are selling them - their investment in UKTV gives them no power whatsoever. They do not run the channels, make a pittance from them each year (a few million pounds), and pretty much have no involvement in the channels whatsoever. They are completely run by BBC WW. The resctrictive ownership clauses held by BBC WW mean UKTV could not be considered a strategic investment as they have virtually no say over who they could sell their share to or how the channels could be used to further their own gains (ie. as bargaining chips in negotiations with Sky or as exclusives to their own platform).
Arguably, the VMTV channels were their only bargaining chips, and they've gone already.
Rightly or wrongly, VM say they have no interest in owning content any more so UKTV has to go.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. III
I think it would be stupid of them to sell their stake in the UKTV channels, personally I thought it was stupid for them to sell their wholly owned channels. They need to have some broadcasting input as it gives them a bit of an edge when sorting out carriage deals with the likes of Sky etc.

That was maybe the reason why when they sold the channels to sky there was a 10 or 9 year carriage deal in there.

Still 4:3 here . (I checked the ads as most of the content is 4:3 OAR anyway).
Same goes for +1 (of course) and Extra.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. III
it took eurosport a long time to broadcast in 16:9 after eurosport HD launched, think it was 1-3months or something after it had launched on virgin so don't expect it anytime soon

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. III
anybody not think that VM have just been screwed over by BBC WW ???
seems a bit strange that a day after VM announced it wanted to sell its stake in UK TV (owned by BBC WW) SKY get a deal to launch Good Food HD and EDEN HD !!!
it just stinks of "screw you, we will annoy both you and your customers and announcing a deal with SKY to carry channels you have been trying to get since July 2009 now you want to sell up you stake in us".

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. III
DS forums say it launched today - along with Sky Movies Classics HD. No sign of either on Virgin. Rang Virgin to enquire about the new film channel - not a clue....

it does VM confirmed it. that doesnt mean every program will be broadcast in HD. CC HD will be simulcast of CC and will be a mix of HD, SD and upscaled programs.

I thought when comedy central goes HD then most of the programes will go 16:9 , instead of 4:3, as they are at the moment.
I not expecting every program to go HD but hopefully will be broadcast in 16:9
Every program i watch at the moment on comedy central is broadcast in 4:3
