Mind you not having a Tivo I don't know if you can set it to record, switch over to it then rewind it whilst it continues to record it? Does it do that?
You can watch a recording from the start while it continues recording the rest.

Ah clever stuff. So does that mean you switch over to the channel as the programme has been on for 5 minutes and just rewind or do you go into the recordings and play it from there?

I've just noticed that that blog site refers to the Tivo Community forum and cwaring is one of the most recent posters on there!

Either of those methods will work.

You could do either. And you don't have to wait 5 minutes. you can watch a recorded show seconds after it's started. And, if you add padding at the front, you can watch it split second live from the recording.

That would be useful, does the V+ box do that, I must admit I haven't tried it as worry about disrupting a recording.
I do still really want the reminders of course though...
A bit off topic but how could I keep some of the recordings on the V+ box as I'll be doing a swap? Is the only option to play them back and record onto DVD? Or are there any possible ways of using the USB port?

you would have to play the recording back on V+ as you can't acess the recordable tuners; being able to do that is a big advantage of Tivo.

You'd have to copy to DVD but you don't have to play them back. On V+, you can use the copy to disc option which operates in the background whilst you're using V+ as normal. The copy in the background function is one of the things that is better on the V+ than Tivo; you would have to watch it to copy on Tivo.

Maybe that could be something else they could add to Tivo if possible?
I didn't know about that feature, thanks for that. Is it easy to find?

I haven't got a V+ anymore but I think it's in V+ extras on the menu?

I doubt they can add that to the Tivo as the reason V+ could do that was because it had and extra decoder. I'm don't know if Tivo has one and is just not activated or that it doesn't have an extra decoder to activate.

Here you are:

4. Copy your programmes to your
VCR or DVD recorder
• Press V+ V
+
, select V+ Extras
and choose Copy to VCR/DVD
• Highlight each programme you
wish to copy and press OK OK
on each one to select them
• Once selected the programme
should appear on the right hand
side of the screen. Press yellow
• Ensure that your VCR or DVD
recorder is connected to your V+
HD Box by the scart lead. This is
the one marked VCR or VCR/DVD.
• Put your DVD or VCR recorder
into record and press OK OK on
your V+ remote
• When copying is in progress the
programmes being copied are
locked and cannot be deleted
• The copy to VCR/DVD screen
shows copying progress in a
red bar above the list of copying
programmes
• If you need to change tapes or
discs press yellow to pause
or unpause the recordings
• Press blue to stop copying

It's not the V+ way though it's an old feature from before we had recordable boxes

Re: Reminders on TiVo

Many thanks for the instructions devilincarnate, I'll give it a go (make sure I remember before the VM visit in a couple of weeks.
With regards to it being not just a V+ feature, I myself only switched to a V+ HD box from a standard V Box in December last year so have only had my V+ HD box for about 5 months. I used them loads before switching to V+ and just as much since. The ability to record hasn't made a huge difference to me, more so the ability to pause and rewind live TV. I've been able to record TV for many years, VCR, DVD recorder etc so the ability to record on the box just makes it a little easier without having removable media. A Tivo having more space in which to record to me doesn't negate the need for having reminders any more than the V+ box did. As far as I can tell aside from the apps/Youtube etc and ability to record more channels as well as watching a recording it seems much like a V+ HD box with more space for recordings.

It is not as a TiVo box will alter the way that you watch TV and also find new shows for you as well. I have a TiVo and also a V+ (have not used the V+ since getting the TiVo box)

It is a wonderful piece of kit and I would not go back to the way it was before IMHO

The app's are good but the ability to record as much as you can at one time is brilliant

This is just my opinion
