Re: Swapping V+ for Tivo
Sorry I meant are they made by Samsung or Scientific Atlanta i.e which one do they look like from here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%2B
If either or both are the 8300DVB and you've got Sky Premiums HD, then you'll be contacted to have them swapped
If they're both the SMT-H3110 then they don't need swapping.

Re: Swapping V+ for Tivo
I imagine that they will migrate Sky HD customers over first and then start on those with XL and, therefore HD channels. Then mop up the rest.
I wonder if the V+ will then be phased out, or whether they will be relegated to secondary, non HD, boxes for bedrooms etc?

Re: Swapping V+ for Tivo
Is this the start of full migration to mpeg4?
I hope so, as that will give us more recording space. That is one advantage that Sky boxes have; more recording space for the same sized hard drive.

It won't be a full migration at this stage as none of the SD only boxes can do MPEG 4, so the SD channels will remain MPEG 2.
However once all the SA boxes are no longer on the network, it could mean all linear HD channels go to MPEG 4 - not just the Sky Premiums.

That would be a good start, giving at least some recording space savings.

Facetious answer with no evidence at all to support it:
They're brining out a new box with at least a 2TB hard drive, and they figure that they will have a lot of original 1TB Tivos going spare

Infact why build any 500gb Tivos, why not make all new Tivos 1TB
