I'll give you a hint from talking to the interviewers

If it's on cars, football or computers...it has to be pretty special, they get 30-40 per week.
Pick something unusual or different, 6-8 slides and some dialogue about the pictures, not too deep but enough detail to keep them interested. On my day we had mixed martial arts, TVR, DJ-ing and alternative energy that were memorable, loads of footie that wasnt the least bit interesting to non "that club" people.

Hi all sorry for the hijack, but I've got an assessment centre for Virgin this coming Thursday and I've no idea what to expect!

The 3 min presentation I presume is to see what your personality is like so was thinking of doing something memorable, 'Why Jaffa cakes are not biscuits' or something like that?

What's involved in the technical test? Should I be reading up on my uni notes about internet and telephone principles?

Any help much appreciated! Desperate for this job, been looking to start with Virgin for 3 years now.

Kris,
That'd put you in good stead, it's novel and will show how you react in public speaking.
Technical test? wire up a phone socket with etension using the diagram....very technical.
They're more interested in you, how you appear to others and your ability to stay calm under pressure of irate customers and the like, they will teach you the tech stuff you need, long as you can read a test meter and multimeter

hi, i have my first telephone interview this thursday and was wondering what questions they ask for it so that i can get some answers prepared, as i have failed one before with them for a different role.

I don't think the presentation is to check your personality. You can't really judge someones personality on a 3 minuite presentation. I personally think the presentation is useless and totally irrelevant to the job you will be doing. I think they are only checking if you can string a sentence together and if you would go to the trouble of making ap a PowerPoint presentation. This might weed out the genuinly want the job to the people who don't and make a crap presentation or not at all. But this is just my theory.

The questions I remember from my first telephone interview are as follows.
What 5 or 6 things would you check for before drilling a hole in a wall
what 5 or 6 things would you check for before going up a ladder
what kinda things would u do/say when greeting a customer
what things would you consider before parking your van at a customers house etc etc

you get the idea, nothing too difficult, common sense stuff really, just think carefully and good luck

Hey there.

I have applied for a job in VM for their collections department, and I got an email and phone call for a job interview, which I missed. I have fortunately booked an interview through the site for Saturday.

Does anybody know if the process for this job is going to be similar? I can imagine there wont be a assessment day like anyone doing techician based job apps, but I would like to be as prepared as possible for what may come my way.

I have been spending time mulling over different types of questions I may get asked and even got pages of potential answers to work on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not really sure the difference in interviews between different departments but I would imagine it will be a compentency based interview specific to the role to which you are applying. I would imagine you will get hit with questions like "tell me about a time when you delivered unbeatable customer service " or " how would you deal with an angry customer". Nothing too dificult here just think carefully and good luck.

Thanks, I will be ready for it, Ihave thought through some potential questions and answers and noted down examples. I reckon I am ready, here is hoping.

Well I did not get to update but I was successful with the telephone interview. I had it on the saturday and got a call first thing Monday morning. I am due to go to the assessment day where there will be some roleplay and a personality test.

I feel I will be ok on the roleplay but the personality test will be interesting. I just have no idea how they will determine if you pass or fail it.
