Bombardier Cuts Deal Blow To Belfast Economy
http://news.sky.com/story/1643673/bo...elfast-economy
It really makes my blood boil over, when you read articles of bad news. For a British Company.
While Cameron is pussy footing around the EU to try and get a deal ' For a Better Country' another company is laying off staff.
Its about time David Cameron and his puppets looked after companies, that are trying there hardest to keep employee's. Instead of foreign companies selling cheaper products to the UK
First we have Mines, steel industries and now we have Bombardier . Who will be next

It's not a nice thing, but Bombardier have failed because they aren't able to compete with Boeing and Airbus (who, let's not forget, actually *are* a European company, unlike Bombardier). They are also cutting the jobs despite a £130 million investment from the Northern Irish Government/ What more do you expect David Cameron to do? Throw more money at them? Let's face it, if he did that, you'd probably be saying he should be throwing money at good UK companies rather than foreign ones like Bombardier.

This is NOT right. The British workforce, which are a proud bunch of people.
Those looking for work, will have to work even harder to get work at a reason wage.
And with Employers fully prepared to lower wages, as they know that they will be taken, at a lower wage.
When l retire, l am certainly not going for a job at less than 18/19 k per year.

Re: Bombardier Cuts Deal Blow To Belfast Economy
When you retire*, surely you won't be going for any job?
*retire - Leave one’s job and cease to work, typically on reaching the normal age for leaving service

What has that got to do with a Canadian company cutting jobs at an overseas branch?
You are aware that nativists like you are the most short sighted bunch of people I could ever think of? The fact is that without global trade, which is fluid, that companies like this would not set up shop here to begin with? Yes, job cuts are devastating but silly rhetoric does not keep jobs safe. In this case, Bombardier are doing badly because a new C-Series plane is way over-budget and without a clear market vs the like of Airbus, Boeing and increasingly Embraer. They are facing the need of a bailout in Canada, not one that is 100% assured and may be facing a lot more pain. Such is life in a global market.
This case aside, the only way to keep up as a country to keep jobs is to be competitive, in terms of tax structure, trade and ease of investment. We want comapnies to be able to export and import both talent, goods and services and it's a notoriously hard balancing act. I'm not getting into whether Cameron is right or wrong to back staying in the EU but he does want to do what's best for the country. His methodology is up for debate but his sincerity is not.
Oh, and to finally nail your last myth, wages are growing again in the last 12 months or so. Not as fast as people, the government included want, but they are going up, especially vs inflation.

Re: Bombardier Cuts Deal Blow To Belfast Economy
Some folks are only happy when they're unhappy.
Arthur would clearly prefer a UK in which we relied upon expensive UK coal as opposed to cheaper imports. He values the UK jobs you see. It's the same with steel - he reckons we should keep the plants open and keep producing steel when there's a worldwide glut and nobody's gong to buy what we produce at a much higher price. He complains that UK milk is too cheap and then moans that organic milk is too expensive. He complains about low wages but moans when prices go up. I dare say that over they years his view has been the same with regard to the likes of British Leyland, the shipyards, the print, the docks and everyone else whose businesses have come, gone or had to be radically transformed in order to survive as a direct result of both internal and global market forces
There is some method in the madness however. As prices/bills increase as a direct consequence of the above, he'll then have plenty more of ammunition to blame the Tories with, you know the people he claimed he doesn't hate before contradicting himself by admitting that he does. If HMG were to implement any of his suggestions, rather than being delighted at the news, I'd predict a raft of threads soon to follow with imaginative titles like - "Yet again the Tories increase ****** prices"...
