Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
We've had a server at work running slow, and when I logged in to it, I noticed that one process (part of the update mechanism on the Virus Scanner) was using an excessive amount of CPU time. I figured this was slowing the machine.
Now, we have a deliberately bureaucratic method for requesting permission to change anything server side. It's done to ensure we have properly tested and thought through any changes, so I put the request through to reboot the machine. It was approved, and I went home.
Now, to ensure it didn't cause too many problems, I said I'd log in and reboot the machine at midnight (when no one was likely to be using it). So, I did. Waited nervously for several minutes to see if the server came back up. Now, this machine runs for years with very few reboots, so I wasn't entirely sure it would come back up.
It did, and when I logged in again, it was noticeably faster. Unfortunately, network ops weren't. I've come in this morning to find that there have actually been network problems in the building the server is in (I don't normally work in there, so wouldn't know) and it's likely they are the cause. Thankfully we do have someone coming in to to upgrade the network link, which should solve the problem, but that's not until Tuesday.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Took Osem Jnr for another driving lesson today and the boy done good. We did a mixture of roads 30-60mph speed limits and included quite a few tricky roundabouts and complex junctions, followed by some manoeuvres nearer to home, including a very awkward reverse up the hill into our driveway. All in all I was impressed by his technique and temperament so I'm hoping he'll turn out to be a confident and safe driver when he passes his test.

Good luck to your son as he seems to be doing a very fine job so far.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Excellent Osem I remember when my boyfriend (who is now my hubby) teaching me to drive when I was 17 and I just could not get to grips with roundabouts so he took me to East Kilbride and believe me after the East Kilbride experience roundabouts were no longer a problem.
Well done to Osem Jnr for handling the tricky roundabouts and complex junctions. I know he will be a confident and safe driver and will be ripping up his L plates in no time at all.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
My husband, after what seems every test devised, has been been told that although he does have a heart abnormality(RBBB) it probably didn't cause him stopping breathing but they are going to implant a heart loop which will give a long term view of his heart function and monitor any future incidents .
His asthma has been confirmed as well controlled and again not thought to have been responsible.
So a lot of reassuring noises but nothing to explain what happened and because of that he is no longer allowed drive as it could happen again.
I can't decide whether to be happy or worried so I have decided to concentrate on the good news and just be content that whatever the future I have him with me now. Just wish he was a better back seat driver.

Thinking Of you both
Sounds like they're not going to drop it until they know what's going on - that's gotta be a good thing.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
My advice Jo is just to take each day as it comes with John as l find if we look too far ahead something always seems to go wrong.
Is this the device they are planning to implant Jo?.
