strange gprs problem

Hi There

I am attempting to set up my laptop so that i can connect to the internet via my motorla v500 mobile phone on orange payg.

I have a windows xp sp2 machine and i'm using the official motorola usb cable and phone tools software.

I managed to connect and i can google fine, but if i click on a link from the returned search it won't access the page. When i return to my normal broadband connection the same links work fine.

Any advice?

Thanks
Matt

Re: strange gprs problem

Is your phone configured for internet access... Most networks have a WAP and an internet APN, usually the WAP APN is a walled garden with content designed for mobiles that may or May not allow access to the outside, and if it does the requests usually go though proxies that modify the pages so they can display better on your mobile screen.

You probably need to be using the Internet APN if its different to the WAP one.

Re: strange gprs problem

thanks for the response, i'm not very clued up on mobiles.

I can access websites on my phone ok, but when i use it as a modem for my laptop i can only get google to work, when i click a link it comes back saying couldn't find.

I'm not sure how i would check what the set up on my phone is.

Look in the settings most phones support more than one set of gprs settings.

May not be there is a mobile version of google after all, quite a lot of the mobile operators seem to allow access to google.
