Re: Major TiVo update started about 3:20am.
Confirmed, the HD/SD preference is only available if "channels=any" is selected, otherwise it takes the preference from the channel selected - entirely sensible.
Another for the "I wonder" section.. so you set a series-link+ after the first episode of a given series has shown, while it's available on VOD/Catchup but before a re-run is shown. You choose the "recordings and streaming" option - great, it'll link the VOD option for episode 1 and schedule recordings for subsequent episodes.
Will it also schedule a recording of episode 1's repeat if possible? i.e. keep the VOD option as an insurance rather than preference?
Edit: Another oddity I've come across - I amended an old 4-Seven series link to cover all-channels and see if the scheduler picked up an earlier showing on C4/C4+1 or such. It's recorded 852 (C4 AD) oddly enough. As best I can tell, it should only make a difference if you have alternate audio set to anything other than "English", but I'd have thought it would still take Channel 4 as first preference? Strange.

Re: Major TiVo update started about 3:20am.
Someone who uses the facility to share recordings between TiVo boxes has noted that this has been much improved by the update.
Is this incidental or a part of the new software release?
Any plans to include Liverpool as a pilot area?

Re: Major TiVo update started about 3:20am.
Just had the update. As predicted series links are now a TOTAL disaster with planned recordings now full of the same programs being recorded on multiple channels, either all the bbc variants or recording the same episode on +1, SD and HD channels. Means everything else fails due to conflicts. Can't wait to return to SKY. Also why does Tivo always fail to record the first episode of new series due to epg errors, so useless and unreliable. Spent about an hour looking for the missing episode on demand, not helped by blank screens, spinning circles and dead ends. Fortunately it was on youtube in the end. Do Virgin want to make us all criminals????? Makes you wonder why we pay them so much. Doesn't look like any bugs fixed either.

No, still in pilot. Quite a few bits of the North West have it, but it'll be weeks until it is rolled out everywhere.

Mine didn't happen automatically. I had to reboot due to another problem which caused it to update. Was nearly an hour before I could use it again.

Some of the "minor tweaks" (there aren't really any changes) seems pretty bizarre. I don't know why they took the blue button away from My Shows. Sometimes I want to just temporarily turn off groups so I can see what has recorded in last couple of days. Can't do that anymore
Just watched first program since the update. Pressed stop at the end, nothing happened. Had to press stop 3 times and it took almost 30 seconds to return to the menu. Was never quite as bad as that before.

Although, pressing the 'stop' button several times to get the video to stop could indicate that you need new batteries in your remote control, or maybe you need a new remote.
Still, the other issues you report are very disturbing.
My box is showing signs of hard drive issues, and I am concerned that this update will finish it off with no compensating benefits.
I am hoping against hope that my box will continue to operate satisfactorily until the new one is available!!

The blue button was removed by TiVo in the main My Shows view because of the addition of on demand content linking in Series Link+
This is how they explained it to their US customers:
Quote:
Why was the option to ungroup in the My Shows view removed with the introduction of OnePass?
With the introduction of OnePass, your TiVo DVR finds and organizes content into a single folder for a show from all providers – such as linear TV, cable provider Video on Demand (VOD) content, and content from third-party video providers. In previous versions, only recorded shows were displayed in My Shows. Because OnePass provides the streaming content as well, the ability to remove grouping cluttered the My Shows view, so the option to ungroup was removed.
|
As an alternative to the blue button option in the main My Shows, you can choose Recordings as a My Shows category which you can then set to sort by date and choose to ungroup.

And US customers accepted that ridiculous explanation for taking functionality away and making the whole experience massively more complicated??? WOW.

No, I know what you mean but it is definitely a lot slower since the update. Switching on from standby, going to MyShows and pressing play (as soon as possible) on a recording probably takes about 90 seconds. The green led flashes straight away but Tivo is much less responsive.
