Derek, what are your views on the top two (Celtic & Rangers) being allowed to play in the English Premier League? We occasionally read in the press that this is under discussion.
Personally I think it is a bit like allowing Welsh clubs to play in the English football league, like Cardiff and Swansea.
Oh ! Wait a minute........

Honestly I think both would struggle in the premiership and finish bottom half the first few seasons if not lower
Then I don't know how the fans would react, Celtics attendances have plummetted in the 2nd half of this season and if they were struggling against an English 'diddy' team I can't see that improving. A lot of Rangers fans are just as fickle.
Something drastic needs to happen in Scottish football but letting the old firm up sticks to England isn't the answer.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010
Both Glasgow teams would need a major financial input if they were to compete in the EPL. They are too far behind just now.
Realistically they are competing with Championship sides for transfer targets. The one thing that has attracted players north has been the lure of Champions league football but that may not be there for much longer the way the UEFA coefficient is plumetting.

If I recall there was a big deal with Setanta which obviously fell flat when they went pants

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010
I would like to ask one question and answer on, One question, What will the top seven clubs be to finish in the premier league, and suggestions.
Second, and the answer, it would be totally unfair on all the other clubs in the EPL if Celtic and Rangers were allowed to join them, they would not last five minutes with clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd, and not only that what about clubs in the Championship.
Celtic and Rangers might have money, but if they want to enter the English football circuit, then they have to start at the bottom.

Poxy FA.
The rules clearly state
Quote:
49 Emergency Loan of Goalkeepers. If all the professional goalkeepers at a Club are either certified by an Independent medical practitioner as being unfit to play or are suspended, a Club may register (either before or after the deadlines laid down in Regulation 48.2.2), a further goalkeeper on a short term Emergency Loan in accordance with the following provisions...

Nielsen is a professional player and neither unfit to play or suspended. City should never have been granted permission to sign another keeper because of their inability to maintain a squad.
Absolutle disgrace.

I agree, shocking decision. Arsenal have had serious injuries this year. 3/4 defenders out for a few games. For the run in we are missing 6 key players. Earlier in the season are top 2 keepers were out and we used the third choice.
United had to do the same at one point, as well as having their entire defense out.
Disgrace is the only way to be put it. Just going to help elevate City to the status of Premiership's most disliked club faster.

Yup... and Celtic have been reduced to buying players based on their ability to sell shirts rather than any modicum of footballing ability.

C'mon Keane takes a good penalty...
Next years figures when the full effect of Mowbrays reign and two years (probably) of no champions league footy will make horrible/hilarious reading depending which side of the divide you are from.
At the end of the day they have to either live within their means or find some way of getting some more TV money sent their way. They won't get into the premiership in the short term, they won't get into some super champions league in the next 3-4 years.
Of course that might be a good thing and they might be forced to rely on bringing their own talent through the ranks rather than buying their way out of trouble every 6 months.

The FA has become the prostitue of FA football now. They'll do anything for money. They'll sell better TV rights to Dubai and China than we can enjoy here and now they'll appease the Arabs at City to insure more billions through through them game into their coffers.
No other way of seeing it.

Some very dodgy maths there, what has the population got to do with it.
Do your equation based on the number of teams in each league for an accurate figure.

Those who make decisions at Kerrydale St have carried a fair amount of luck over the past few years but it's come home to roost now.
"We've got less debt than you" isn't really a chant you hear too often from the terraces.
Hopefully there will be some realisation that the most faithful support in the world will no longer buy a shirt because you can put Dublin on the back.
On the bright side, my nephews are both playing with the Celtic Boys and my Neighbours lad is playing with Rangers. All 3 are cracking wee football players and the facilities they get to train are brilliant.... so just keep breathing for another 10 - 15 years.... and we'll be competing with Blackpool for promotion to the Pan-European League Level 3.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010
Such a bad decision from the ref sending Motta off, never a red card in a million years. The ref may have just ruined this match...
