This SHOULD NOT be happening [Foodbank Need]
http://news.sky.com/story/1185639/fo...illion-in-2014
I am so angry that l watched this item on Sky News and heard the man who organises all this say that this has gone up 500%. and it will keep rising.
I cannot believe that this country is allowing this sort of poverty to continue, through all the cutbacks that are hitting the UK public.
This country is not a third world country and should not have to be like this. We are NOT short of Food products, but the poverty is hitting everyone.
I believe that the Tory Party and Lib Dems should be totally ashamed to be allowing this to happen in 2013 - appalling.

According to that link the trust has opened 400 food banks since 2004 - wonder who was in power then?
Things are not good if there's a need for them but I suspect it's not just a Tory issue.

re: This SHOULD NOT be happening [Foodbank Need]
I am NOT talking about in 2004. I am talking about today, l dont give a crap who was in power, BUT the Tories/Libs are in power NOW.
Budget cuts have made matters worse. Yes food banks were around for many years, Sally Army used to do, we have volunteer organizations out there giving our food etc etc.
BUT, the Tories / Libs are in NOW and can do something to stop it.
We have large bills now coming out and the government won't stop them increasing charges. we have massive cuts in evidence. We have the dreaded bedroom tax - even l am suffering due to this and l have a job. I have been told to move to a two bed house from a 3, Poverty is at its highest - and this government has the power to inprove it - is it a rant, yes, as this country should not be in this damn mess.

Labour decimated it, I thought it was the bankers and they haven't gone away, they're waiting to do it again

I agree with this somewhat, the political blame game gets in the way of something being done on all manner of stuff

Arthur once again you sit before us having your usual daily rant, while initially this was quite entertaining its now getting boring and venomous.
When issues were happening during the labour years you were deathly quiet, even when people point out facts, you know Arthur FACTs where statements are true and links given you still refuse to acknowledge anything that labour did wrong.
Do you not see what an idiot that makes you out to be, maybe you have a thick skin but for the love of Christ GIVE IT A REST!
You by own admission earn over 30k a year and YOU need help with council tax? Wish I earned that amount Arthur, I really do! Maybe if you lived within your means you would be up crap street without a paddle.

The debt the country had at the time left us in a weak position when the crash happened ,we had to borrow nearly £1000 billion on top of the billions that labour had borrowed funding a welfare for all state ,thats how i see it anyway

Re: This SHOULD NOT be happening [Foodbank Need]
Back to the main point Arthur was trying (I think) to make - I agree with him that it is wrong, in this day and age, that people have to queue up at Food Banks, and that the number of Food Banks (and people using them) is increasing.
It is easy for us to find someone to blame (the bankers, the Coalition Government, the previous Government, etc. etc.) - what we should be doing is trying to find a solution, not waste energy blame-storming.
What's the solution? - I don't know, but I worry that whilst we are all point scoring, others less fortunate are suffering.

Re: This SHOULD NOT be happening [Foodbank Need]
I watched an article on the news this morning, probably the same one everybody else saw.
The question was asked to a guy about food banks. What would people do if they weren't there.?..........his answer? They'd have to .....beg,......steal........
Not once did he suggest getting a job? Looking for work, doing anything necessary to provide.
No, the first two ideas were to scrounge and break the law.
Being on benefits is no holiday, I know that.
But what our lefties don't understand is that the benefit caps........not cuts..........
Is so that those with real need get what they need. Real need.

Re: This SHOULD NOT be happening [Foodbank Need]
Could be worse, we could be living in America. 47 million Americans are relying on food stamps:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...ession-mostly/
I remember watching a feature on SKY News about this back in the summer. It was totally crazy. People with full-time jobs living in suburbia, who haven't had a salary increase in years whilst the cost of living rockets, using most of their money to try and keep the roof over their families heads.
