Yes, but if VM showed Setanta HD, Sky would want it too, wouldn't they? If Setanta really want to launch an HD channel and Sky aren't interested, launching it on VM would make Sky sit up and take notice.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV
It never makes sense to me, when people talk about VM launching Setanta Hd, would make Sky sit up and take notice, VM have insisted that they won't increase there HD content, it would be on Sky before VM took it, at the present moment VM are sitting on the wall, for adding more channels, and are about two years behind, all the other broadcastors, VM, have to improve the channels service, before they can take on the other services.

Would they? Sky don't even retail Setanta channels on satellite (and its unclear if the European Commission would prohibit it) so there is nothing to indicate they would pay up for an HD channel for their own subscribers who also pay £12.99 to Setanta.

It was widely reported that if VM hadn't signed that £40m deal with Setanta, Setanta would of most certainly have gone bankrupt. They really needed that money from cable to keep themselves going after the over bidded for packages etc.
Setanta and VM seem to have a good relationship going.

In essence that was what i was trying to say. They got and get more money from virgin than the £2.50 per viewer

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV
As VM have this good relationship with Setanta, it wouldn't surprise me, if Setanta were not the secret company, that has offered 600 million to buy VM, now wouldn't that be a challenge for Sky, and Setanta, are not worried by the challenge to take Sky on.

Only in dubious maths is a deal worth around £40m deal not the same as around £2.50 per XL subscriber.
£2.50 * around 1.4m subscribers * 12 months = £42m.

mmm it doesnt work like that. it more ocmplex than just divide the maoutn oaid by the subscrinber, they get more money on top of that, they got 40 million to so all xl viewers got it as part of the package.

That won't happen mate, Setanta are on the bread line as it is. They couldn't afford to buy VM and visa versa. I think ESPN will eventually buy Setanta out.
