This was the RAF E3D Sentry ZH101 that was doing a practice diversion.
Call sign was NATO30

She'l be missed! I remember seeing her in the hangar at Bruntingthorpe and walking under the wings as she taxiid out.
Then the roar and whistle as she flies....AMAZING!

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
My local airport has a lot of Cargo and this big beast was in yesterday too.
Not as big as the bigger brother 225 but still huge!

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Keep getting these crossing overhead.. Hard to take a frontal shot as by the time you hear them and grab the camera they've already passed.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Too nice a day to stay in so popped out for a ride to Dunstable downs, unfortunately the gliders themselves were far and high but a lot of other airfield activity.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Afternoon Easyjet to Paris just declared an emergency and turned back to Liverpool. Flew over my house sounding very rough indeed. Thankfully safely on the ground - bird strike I guess.

I did that at the joint services gliding club at Bister. Much prefered being towed up by there buldog tow plane than by the ground tow line.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Years ago, I was only 11, my father who was a gliding instructor at Tangmere had taught me enough that I was able to ascend on the winch, drop the line, fly the circuit and land without his aid. I remember them putting in loads of weights at the front where I was to balance the craft. These weren't the elegant gliders of today but wood and canvas covered RAF ones.
Funnily it didn't grab me and I never took up flying seriously.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Ouch - the mayday on the Easyjet out of Liverpool JLA today was apparently a total loss of electrical power just after takeoff - not the sort of thing you want to happen on a modern fly-by-wire aircraft. The RAT (Ram Air Turbine*) was deployed on the way back in hence the strange noises.
*windmill type device that generates electrical power in the case of a serious power failure
