TiVo : Tivo Update - Can someone post a video of it? ( 15.2 )

What's the big deal of selecting a cable stream? Surely if it is that hard Tivo could change to another channel, like freeview does. Hardly rocket science.

Anyhow, on the Virgin help forums they have said Red Button is coming in the update, they would be pretty stupid to announce that and not bring it in the update saying "oh we meant just the functionality so our partners can develop it". Would look pretty lame.

We are able to push an app launch after the firmware update later this month, and before the change freeze. As we've said in our update announcement, the firmware update supports us to launch Red Button services as well as Spotify services. So we're working as hard as we can with our partners to get these great services out as soon as possible. Everything else will come in the new year.

What "everything else" means i don't know. Everything else could mean multiroom streaming which i don't think is activated yet. Any other guesses ?

Red Button: This update adds extra functionality necessary to support Red Button services developed by our channel partners, such as BBC, ITV, and Sky Sports

That says "support".

The 'big deal' is that TiVo apps are written in Flash, and native Flash has no concept of changing channel. Think about it - if you ran a Flash app on your PC or phone, could it change channel?

So the Flash engine in the TiVo needs extending to allow apps to access the TV-specific features. That's what the update does.

I still hope the bbc red button app , sky sports red button app will launch 5-7 days after the update. Mainly because the red button has been in development for months. and The developers could of using the pilot software for months.

Thinking and happening are two totally different things and just be patient as good things come to those who wait.

Currently we provide a Red Button link to the full BBC iPlayer on TiVo. We are working with our content partners to extend this with new Red Buttons services before the end of this year.

Any news on bbc and Sky Sports red button coming to Tivo this year ?

as soon as our plans are more firm we'll be in a better position to make an announcement.

Will the announcement be a press release or be in the customer news area ?

Certainly, when it launches, we'll make sure that everyone knows about it! Probably both. I'll try to get in a position where I can give rough timeline soon, but it's much harder to do that in this situation as it's commercially sensitive.
