It could work when the update is fully rolled. We will have to wait and see

The content partners ie BBC, Sky Sports could developing the red button on the pilot software as we speak to make sure it works when the update is fully rolled out

They have stated that the update adds support for Red Button and that doesn't mean that Red Button is launching with the update.

Technically it already supports Red Button EG. ITV has an overlay menu with a link to ITV Player.

But the developers could be using the pilot software to develop the red button ? whenever it launches.

The pilot group isn't being used to test ongoing development, ongoing development is being tested elsewhere.

I think everyone is getting a bit hung up on the 'Red Button' bit

There are two things covered by Red Button

1) Small apps and links to other areas. As you say, these are available now e.g to iPlayer and ITV Net Player / X Factor voting

2) Full Red Button services including multiple video streams etc

It's the second set that will need the 15.2 update as far as I can see. If I had to guess why it would be down to the need to be able to tune to different cable TV streams within the app. All the existing apps use the broadband connection for video

Personally I think all Red Button services on TiVo will be delivered on TiVo via apps.

But can't see Sky Sports alternate video (for instance) being streamed over the broadband connection tho - so although they'll still be a TiVo app they must be able to access the 'live' channels

Do we know if apps can't stream a feed from a tuner? Are app completely sandboxed?

To be honest don't know one way or the other.

I did say it was a guess

The BBC iplayer App does not use a tuner so i would assume it will be the same.
