Ebay and VIRGIN MEDIA WIRELESS NETGEAR CABLE ROUTER
Just noticed an advert for ebay at the bottom of the Virgin Media Internet Services forum page for a `VIRGIN MEDIA WIRELESS NETGEAR CABLE ROUTER'
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VIRGIN-MEDIA-W...d=p3286.c0.m14
I always thought it was wrong to sell the routers as they belong to VM or am I missing something?

no you are not wrong, it is illegal to sell them, the same as selling modems

not really illegal as you as a customer can buy them from Virgin Media and you keep them as its your property, but the modems are Virgin Media's property as you only rent these

Re: Ebay and VIRGIN MEDIA WIRELESS NETGEAR CABLE ROUTER
Whoever buys it will be in for a surprise when they try to connect it and find they are having problems connecting it, as neither Virgin or Netgear will offer them any support.
The will be tears before bedtime if that happens

It is supposed to be returned if you downgrade or leave within 12 months and the 2 years you mention is the warranty on the router.

Re: Ebay and VIRGIN MEDIA WIRELESS NETGEAR CABLE ROUTER
Even if they are a Virgin customer they cannot be offered support as that router will not be on their account and therefore will be classed as a 3rd party unsupported device.
Could end up with an expensive paperweight.

Yes very true as they can only offer support on hardware they supply

Re: Ebay and VIRGIN MEDIA WIRELESS NETGEAR CABLE ROUTER
I have a Sky ADSL router here which I flashed with normal netgear firmware, it wasn't the easiest thing to do but I would imagine it'll be a similar thing

The Virgin firmware is supposed to be embedded and virtually un removable and even Netgear will not touch them as you are more likely to brick it.
Either get one from Virgin with full support or buy from Amazon or PC World if you want to be able to change the firmware.

Re: Ebay and VIRGIN MEDIA WIRELESS NETGEAR CABLE ROUTER
I have a VM cable modem and bought a Net Gear router off eBay for less than the price of the auction.
