Upgrade to Sky Fibre

My exchange (Seaford, East Sussex) is going to be upgraded to fibre (FTTC) on the 12th of June 2012. I've spoken to Sky and, as usual, the call terminates abroad with someone who has no information. Has anyone upgraded to Sky Fibre and if so can you do it on the day the exchange is upgraded or is there a time-lag between the exchange upgrade and Sky making it available? I already have Sky's unlimited service, so would I be better just staying on that and seeing the speed increase anyway? Thanks in anticipation. Nick R

Re: Upgrade to Sky Fibre

You would have to book an appointment for an engineer to come and install the actual service. That takes about 7 days typically.

Once it becomes available to order on BT's systems it becomes available for any provider to order.

Your speed will not change at all when your exchange gets activated for fibre unless you actually take the fibre service, which again requires an engineer to physically install.

Re: Upgrade to Sky Fibre

Does BT wait until *everything* is ready before listing an exchange as upgraded / "accepting orders", or does the date only cover the exchange and not the installation of new street cabinets?

Re: Upgrade to Sky Fibre

The exchange and a certain (not concretely defined) number of cabinets.

There's no fixed time when "everything" is ready as they frequently come back and revisit old areas, adding more cabinets to previously enabled exchanges. As I say, the general rule is once a good few cabinets are ready (and the exchange is too) it gets switched on, and new cabinets that get installed get enabled as and when they become ready.
