Re: I have a job interview tomorrow with virgin media for a cable guy

Hi I passed my phone inteview, I have had the interview - the days goes as follows:

There were about 20 of us - some for the trainee as some for B.A.U=(BUSINESS AS USUAL).

1. Every one sits down to watch a video on all the Virgin products with about ten manager from around the country.
2. They go around the room and ask every one there name and to tell them 'your greatest moment in life (people said birth of there child ect)
3. as there was so many, certain managers take people for interviews whilst others do there 3 min presentation (ranging from there pet, weight lifting, how to cook meal, bikes, world cup)
4. Interview was only 10 mins advised me that the questions they ask relate to the online test - ( they have an average and if your higher or lower in certain areas the questions would relate to that) I got 3 Q's - problem solving - gave same answer as i gave in tel interview, if I can remeber a time where i talked too much.
5. went back sat and watches presentations - people coming and going for interviews (tip - when doing presentation dont just look at the managers who are sat at the front - alot of people did this including me for about 30 seconds then realised and talked to the room) - every one is rushing to get u p and get it out of the way.
6. went into a room to do a telephone extention test - You are shown how to do it & there is a diagram on the test board you are working on so matching the right colours. -You get 10 mins to do it - I did it but ran out of time as I was tightening up the screws in the socket.
7. Coulourblind test - they take you outside for better light and you have a cable with about 50! wires coming out and you have do say the primary and secondary colours ( primary solid colour secondary is the dotted colour on the wire - black primary & white ditted stripe secondary)
8. Group test - several items to stop an egg cracking when dropped from a height - best one was blow up 2 balloons make 2 rafts out or drinking straws attach the eg between the 2 straw rafts then tape to the balloon - I will do a naff picture : O=o=O That seem to work the best.

Then off home -about 3pm -the day went fast.

I was contacted by the end of the week and was told I had go the job

You you then receive a 'just checking' form with all work history, crb, credit check (bloody everything)

If that all checks out on start date - picked up by a 'buddy' and taken to another presentation - were you get your VAN, PDA, MOBILE, UNIFORM.
Then have a 6week induction - 2wks with a qualified tech then technical training.

I know its a super long thread but this is all the info you will need.

Cheers

You do need to do a power point or flip chart. Tip - if you are doing a powerpoint, print it as well as several peoples mem-stick didnt work and they were given some flip chart paper and a marker and told to try and remember it.
If its printed - and stick dosnt work - you have it all prep'd!!

Yes I did a powerpoint, they have a projector set up for you & one of the managers puts in the usb stick and sets it up.
I just used a spare blank usb, the only thing on it was my presentation, so they were not messing about trying to find it.

The practical part was straight forward, they said dont worry if you dont finish it - ( I didnt finish - just has 2 screw to tighten when I put the face plate back on) I think they want to make sure that what you do is neat & correct and not rushed to finish with wires not clicked in properly or main cable-(like on a standard plug) not secured properly.

The push down tool used to click the wire in was a bit fiddley but didnt take long to get used to.

You will be fine

Hi Stuvey

Looking at it your right its not a credit check just Financial info

The 'JUST CHECKING' form you get ( I got one by post and then a email link to do it online) has 10 pages.

It is to be sent to 'The Security Watchdog' within 2days of receipt.

I will give you a summary of the info they want :-

-Personal details + last 5 years addresses
-Education- details of grades before you started full time employment & any further qual's in the past 2yrs
-Current/Last employment + all h.r and line managers tel's nums, email's.
-Past 2 years work history + (same as above)
- if you have worked for the Virgin group before
- if you have been self employed before
- Dates of any period of unemployment (claiming benifit)
- Details on any gaps in employment history -(if over 4wks)
- x2 professional character Ref's, tel's nums, email's.
- Any unspent convictions (will contact Disclosure Scotland)
- Drivers licence & expiry date - any driving offences
- financial information: questions:
1. ever had civil proceedings taken against you by creditors.
2. ever been declared bankrupt
(But it does not constitute a credit check)

Hope this helps

God its fookin nearly 1.30am!

Good luck for your assesments!!

Re: I have a job interview tomorrow with virgin media for a cable guy

Nice write up.

I have been dumped for the second time this year by Virgin Media. In March I passed both phone interviews and was waiting to be booked in for an assessment when I received an email saying all positions had been filled. That process took 3months. This time it only took them 6 weeks from submitting my application on line to advising me by email that the position was now filled. Only this time, noone even rang me for an interview!

Back to the drawingboard! Good luck to everyone else though.

I have the induction at Basildon on 21st July, not looking forward to the presentation bit and am still wondering what it has to do with being a good installer

Re: I have a job interview tomorrow with virgin media for a cable guy

Think the presentation is just to do with how you deal with the public, once you get there every one will be nervous,so you be the only one feeling that way

Smile Re: I have a job interview tomorrow with virgin media for a cable guy

Thanks for the support dcboy

This is my second time round, first I copped out about the presentation but have been getting some help with the "public speaking" side, it's nothing I've ever done, i was one of those that avoided being in school plays.
