Re: Tennis

Didn't need Google, nearly 50 years of listening to TMS has kept me well informed on such matters. So go on, admit it you had not heard of Ranjitsinhji until just now.

Who hasn't heard of Ranjitsinhji and all the stuff he does? One might even ask what doesn't he do? A top professional in his field if you ask me.

He features heavily in CB Fry's autobiography, A Life Worth Living which is a great read (minus Fry's admiration for Hitler and the Hitler youth, which is taken out of later editions), highly recommend it. That aside cricket history up until around 1950 ish has always fascinated me.

Some of the truest things said in jest, he sure did fit a lot into a life blighted by illness, ruled a huge swathe of India, was part of setting up the league of nations and a fabulous batsman to boot

Re: Tennis

I have an eclectic collection of cricket related books, apart from Dickie Birds auto biography which I have but found it very poor and gave up on it less than half way in. I enjoy reading cricketing books of most kinds, far superior to anything football has produced with one or two notable exceptions and they usually have ghosts writers.

Even light hearted or humorous cricket books are always a good read, 'Slipless in Settle' and' Wet wickets and Dusty balls' are two I particularly enjoyed.

The Nawab of Pataudi wasn't half bad either.
