Question BBC Travel has closed, alternatives?

The BBC Travel site was permanently closed on 14/02/17!

I am looking for a similar alternative, this needs to provide me with a map with the incidents on it and also LIVE traffic cameras that i can click on and view the traffic live, is there anything like this available?

Re: BBC Travel has closed, alternatives?

I've tended to use www.roadworks.org

There are various filter that you can use including live traffic but I don't know if it has cameras. You could try www.trafficengland.com

Re: BBC Travel has closed, alternatives?

The AA do a app for members which does traffic, so I'll guess the others will.

Alternatively TomTom Go 5000 & 6000 have built in traffic master and constantly update you route as required.

Re: BBC Travel has closed, alternatives?

My TomTom Go 5000 has a built in SIM I don't pay any data, nor do I need to register with a mobile operator.

You just plug in and set your route, and you can even do it via voice.

FYI the only difference between the 5000 & 6000 is screen size 5" or 6".

Re: BBC Travel has closed, alternatives?

Still can't find something with Live Traffic cameras, as i use this all the time before leaving for work, to see instantly if the A14 is slow/blocked or not.

Re: BBC Travel has closed, alternatives?

TomTom website has a map/routing facility and because some of its units can report back conditions it can show traffic jams on smaller routes. No cameras though.

The highways agency has a good Ios app, and I think they have one for Android as well.

We haven't paid the BBC tax for 15 years and hardly watch any of the rubbish that they broadcast. It's not that difficult: Just don't open your front door to the bozos.

Strictly speaking it's not the not paying the tax that gets a prison sentence, it's ignoring the court order to pay the non-compliance fine.

Only if you let them "catch" you. Most people get done by opening the door, or even worse letting their children open the door, to the bozo's and letting them in. You are under no obligation to do so. They have no more powers than the local double glazing salesman.

Like I say 15 years.... or ~2,100. I'd rather have that in the beer fund.

But I fear we take this thread too far off the original topic so end of this before the mods step in.
