unavailable/late txts

Hi
my wife and daughter both have samsung tocco on vm contract
We have noticed recently that text mgs can arrive many hours after being sent and many ppl get "the mobile no. you have called is currently unavailable" msg when they try to call

even if i sit at home and call any of these phones when they show more than 50% signal i get the same msg

If i swap the sim into my works nokia 6220 (t-mob) phone it gets every call and txt

VM cs say it is not company policy to offer another model of phone to fix a prob so have sent 2 more samsung which do exactly the same as before

my works nokia on t-mob works just fine from my house

can anyone advise please ?

Re: unavailable/late txts

What firmware are you using?
Dial *#1234# from the keypad/dial screen to find out.
There are some older firmwares that can cause signal problems

Re: unavailable/late txts

thanks jtaylor06
I will look into that.....Would be nice to think VM would have updated latest phones as they are re-furbs rather than new

Re: unavailable/late txts

It's not the phone. did you port your number to vm?
The delay is due to coverage issue! If a sender sends a text and your phone is in poor or no coverage at the time it will try again to deliver it again and again but increasing the retry time every attempt. This will go on for 72 hours then it will discard the txt if not delivered.I know you say when u look it says 50% signal but what does it say when you put it down again?

Re: unavailable/late txts

thanks bigjock
no we didnt port the number, it was supplied by vm
what you say about the text sound right ,we do lose a certain amount of texts but this never used to happen, and is far worse using tocco .My fix for now is to use an old T-mob handset as we can always receive texts and calls on it

I called tocco 10 times and and it rung only on 2 of those.
I called my old t-mob 10 times (with same sim in) and it rung every time.
the software version in the tocco is S5230BIII1

Re: unavailable/late txts

Tocco Lite
BI means Virgin Mobile / T-Mobile.
I means 2009
I again means September
1 means revision 1.

When I said there were issues with older firmwares, this applied to the Tocco (F480) and not the Tocco Lite.

You may get your firmware upgraded at a Samsung service center, or you can use my site (at your own risk) - just ask via PM for the address.
