anybody know what the maximum recommended length for s-video cables is?

Don't know, but as you can connect projectors by s video I would imagine it will be 10-15m plus.

Depends on the cable quality. For long lengths, get a better quality cable, which will reduce degradation

decided not to go the TV out way so I've bought a divx playing DVD player
