Presumably then, the fact that two national newspapers have printed that he's denied the claim means we can discuss it?

If it's now 'out there' and those papers are prepared to defend it, that does take the heat off us somewhat. PM me a link - the thing that we need to be careful of here is the temptation to link any living person with actions similar to those apparently committed by Jimmy Savile. A lot of people seem confused on this point; so far the only newspaper reports I have seen have stated that an injunction about a potentially libellous report has been lifted, without actually saying what that libellous report might have been.

PM sent. The two sources linked are quite specific. One has the person denying the claim. The other has the (lifting of) the injunction specifically lnked to the allegation. I suspect there will be more before the day is out.

Here are a couple of links for discussion. Please note that this is not an invitation for lurid speculation that goes even an inch beyond the very specific allegations that have been made in court because only what was precisely described in court is privileged information for which we can't be pursued for libel. Play nicely, folks.

Joking aside, it's probably worth bearing in mind that the allegations against Freddie aren't that serious. Certainly not on a par with what's levelled against Savile and Glitter.

Well then let it go to court, let the CPS bild a case against Glitter and Starr and arrest them.

Mail now reporting more than 40 woman and a man now claiming to have been abused. That's quite extraordinary for so many people to have been abused, with Savile still managing to bury it and avoid prosecution.
A single abuse allegation managed to bring down the mighty King of Pop (his reputation never recovered), I don't see why the UK is or would be any different.
I'm not accusing anyone of anything (they are the ones making the claim, not me) but I'm curious as to how many of these accusers would agree to a polygraph.

re: Operation Yewtree
was it just me - or was anyone else left feeling sickened at the way Janet Street Porter (on question time last night) effectively absolved herself of any guilt through inaction simply by saying "I worked in a male dominated environment, and no body would have listened" - she seemed to have a lot of details about what was going on where - and she's kept quiet all this time?

Again, it's not that different from what we've seen in the Catholic Church. Perhaps Savile wasn't as much of an authority, but he was a very famous and influential person.
