How to copy a DVD with vob & bup files
I have a lovely DVD of Osem Jnr # 2's last school review and want to put it on his computer then possibly convert it and put another copy on his Android tablet. I can play the disc ok in my win 8.1 laptop but cannot find a way to rip the vob and bup files and Windows Media Player doesn't seem to recognise the DVD at all. Is there a simple way to do this? I have copied the files 'manually' onto my C drive but they won't play.
TIA as always.

I haven't done it for a while, but I used to use DVD shrink to get the DVD files onto the hard drive, then ImgBurn to burn the files to another DVD. Or with the Vob files on the hard drive you can use something like handbreak to convert them into whatever format you want.

Freemake Video Converter will convert the files into almost any format you desire.
http://www.freemake.com/download?id=...oConverter.exe
BUT BE CAREFUL, it tries to install some stuff you probably don't want, so read what you are clicking on.

MPC* will play the vob files. IIRC Just open the .ifo file and it'll do the rest.
*Ships with free K-Lite codec pack

Re: How to copy a DVD with vob & bup files
If the OP wishes to put the files to disc then img burn will auto detect and write as a DVD.

A disc in the drive might be quicker.

Re: How to copy a DVD with vob & bup files
VOB files are native dvd files, there is no conversion necessary. DVD shrink will ensure the files will fit on a standard disc

Re: How to copy a DVD with vob & bup files
The OP seems to want to be able to play the video from his computer, in which case creating DVD images would seem unnecessary.
I use handbrake to convert DVDs into MP4 videos which we then play off an iPad in the car for the kids on long journeys.

Re: How to copy a DVD with vob & bup files
Thanks everyone.
Chris is right, I just want to get the footage off the DVD and into the lad's tablet.
I'll look into this when I get the time. TVM

Re: How to copy a DVD with vob & bup files
I'll second ImgBurn. I've been using it for years for various purposes. A lovely piece of free software. A little bit of a learning curve, but not too much.

Re: How to copy a DVD with vob & bup files
I have been using free make without issue but I'm trying to convert disk 3 & 4 of the new statesman to MP4 but all I get is blank screen and just audio.
Any ideas?
disks 1 &2 had no issue.

Re: How to copy a DVD with vob & bup files
To view VOB files on a computer just install VLC, it can play them.
For video conversion, I use AVC-Free.

Have you all the latest codecs?
I use the Klite mega pack.
