Yes, you are right. MS could have had a much better post failure diagnostic tool; and one you can use before installation to give you a chance of dealing with the culprit beforehand.

I suppose I will have to bite the bullet, remove or disconnect everything and use an iso disc.

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion

I think the best way to update is to use the download tool to create a USB install disk and install from there.

Reading the above helpful comments it appears to me that MS has messed up here. We had few of these problems with previous upgrades.

SnoopZ. Yes my bios is up-to-date. It is absolutely shocking that MS have taken us to a point where I need to disconnect all my internal peripherals including, NomadKing, my Nvidia graphics card. I am resentful of having to do so. What happens to the millions of folk out there who are not computer savvy?
The Nvidia issue is registry related. It involves editing the registry. Another option to try would be to copy \Users\Default to \Users\UpdatusUser. That would create the missing profile directory.

4 calls already today from people who have upgraded to 10, not liked it, rolled back, and now can't access the internet. "No networks found".

Remember that W7 onwards can mount an ISO as a virtual CD\DVD drive, avoids actually having to burn the physical media.

If you have a SATA DVD drive you may need to disconnect that too as noted in my previous post and link.

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion

Thanks for all your suggestions. I finally disconnected everything today, including additional internal HDs, my video card, USB devices and CD player. I used a USB stick with the media burned on.

No joy I'm afraid running it as a boot device or from within Windows. As a boot device the system would not accept my product key and made me continue in Windows. The installation fell over ay 30% as usual.

Have you checked your BIOS type and version as that maybe a problem, changing a setting may fix your problem?

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion

I wonder if anyone who upgraded to Windows 10 is having problems syncing and iPhone like me? As soon as I plug the iPhone in, iTunes freezes.

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion

I just plugged an ipod nano in and it didn't freeze. Its now updating to ver 12.2.2 and i'll see if its still OK

Well it didn't freeze. ITunes asked me to press OK to close the Ipod but I cant see an OK anywhere to press, either on itunes or the Ipod.

Tinky,

It does sound like there is something deeper wrong with your machine there, have a skim through the Windows Event Logs and see if you can spot anything recurring especially Disk errors!

Might be worth doing the sfc /scannow in command prompt. Fixed a multitude of errors on my laptop.

If that doesn't work I'd throw in the towel and do a fresh install.
