Re: SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 Sneak Peek

looks pretty awesome after watching a couple of the videos. I've only just started looking at Linux. I have had a very quick play with Ubuntu and Kubuntu. TBH, there are so many flavours, I'm a little lost. I know nothing about Linux, but would love to get to know it more. SUSE seems quite a good starting point. Is it one of the free flavours?

Re: SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 Sneak Peek

Free version 10.1 available from here http://en.opensuse.org/Welcome_to_openSUSE.org

Video apps and codecs howto here http://www.thejemreport.com/mambo/content/view/254/42/

10.1 doesn't have the new menu layout like SLED 10 and you have to setup the Xgl 3D graphical interface yourself (if you want it) howto here http://en.opensuse.org/Xgl but apart from that they are very similar.

Although all distro's come with Open Office, Novell have tweaked the version distributed with SUSE so that it is more compatible with MS Office files.

UBUNTU craps out for me after installation due to the fact that it ignores the BIOS settings and assumes the drives are in standard physical order.

By the way, select to format the drives with the XFS file format, it's the best. That's something else UBUNTU falls down on, it can't handle the boot drive formatted to XFS.

enjoy..
