l remember several times with my partner at 5.00 in this morning waiting for the transport which did not arrive and when it did it would come several hours late and that's not good when you have to travel 220 miles and have to get back in the same day.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

I have to make a very important choice in what type of dialysis I stay on. But not its a hard choice and I can't choose.

And despite what some (a) poster on here told me yes I do feel guilty about the money I'm costing the NHS. so this is a factor on my choice.

Don't worry what a certain stupid ignoramus thinks dilli as you have to do what is best for your health as the cost factor should not come into it especially if the more expensive treatment will work better for you with regards to your dialysis treatment.

It works out at over £20,000 including equipment. Per year I mean

Quite right! I can't believe some member(s) would be so nasty as to deny a UK resident legitimate NHS care. No doubt the same people are quite happy to have health tourists from all over the world milking our NHS dry.

Well l have been having treatment for 16 years now and the LVAD l had all those years ago cost £90 ,000 and the ICD now l have cost £20,000 and that's just for starters and then l have had considerable stays in hospital during that period including one stay for 6 months and l have not even factored in things for when l am at home which includes regular ongoing expensive medications , a home monitor and other things as well so don't worry about the cost dilli as that should not be a factor in your decision in my mind.

Why feel guilty, it's not that clown paying for it and given the choice of how my taxes are spent I'd rather they be spent on people like yourself, far better that than some government vanity project or warmongering

Do not allow others to influence your decision dilli. What is imprtant is your health, both physical and mental. Making a choice on cost should be the last thing on your mind. You and Natalie have to live with your final decision so quality of life is a far, far more important consideration than cost at this stage.

I too could have taken the cheaper route and I know that I would not have been here to-day to make this post had I done so.

Some people might say that the life of an elderly woman wasn't worth the thousands of pounds that I know I have cost the NHS this last few years but you know what? My family and friends don't agree. The cost of my medications and hospital treatments were very high but they kept me alive. I ran out of mainstream options last year and was offered a life line and the results of the US trial I have been luckily enough to get on have given other, younger, people more hope for a future.

I personally think that was a really nasty and uncalled for. I say go for whatever is the best for you dilli whatever the cost and don't feel guilty be thankful that you have that choice. My Mum who is 80 has Myeloma that affects the bone marrow cells and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma that is a blood cancer. Just last week my Mum had a CT scan despite deciding on no treatment would this poster class this as a waste of money in giving someone a CT scan for the monitoring of the cancer progression despite their decision of no treatment. In their opinion should our family or my Mum feel guilty about the NHS money being spent on her because she is 80 with a illness that has no cure.
The answer to that is no I do not, what I do feel is extremely grateful and thankful that she has these choices IMO some people can be really thoughtless in what they say to someones situation and to those people I ignore thank goodness we can make these choices dilli. Your decision dilli and yours alone and to hell with those who don't agree with it that is my opinion. Good luck dilli and for the record I admire you in the tough decisions that you have made and still have to make.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

When it (the NHS) was launched by the then minister of health, Aneurin Bevan, on July 5 1948, it was based on three core principles:

that it meet the needs of everyone

that it be free at the point of delivery

that it be based on clinical need, not ability to pay

So it doesn't matter if it's a 1p dose of paracetamol, or a very expensive treatment. You, as a citizen of the UK have the right to it, (N.I.C.E. notwithstanding) and don't let anyone say you aren't. If you have been given a choice of treatments, go with the one that suits you best, and don't even consider the cost.

Very minor moan, compared to others' predicaments.

Just spent the afternoon assembling a potting table for SWMBO - the wood was pre-cut, but I had to measure/drill 32 holes in the wood sections to screw it together (and as I am carp at DIY, I was pleasantly surprised when it all went together without wobbly legs at the end).
