Sorry if it's not possible but my son did something that used to tell me off if I tried to change some settings on my computer when he didn't trust me not to fiddle. A couple of slaps around his knee caps and he changed the settings. Now he just sighs a lot when he sees what I get up to.

absolutley i could password his av and firewall and indeed most of his lappy but why the hell should i ,he's just turned 18 and should know better ,he's got to learn that being lazy about these things will only cause him more trouble in the long run .What will he do when he loses all of his course work for college and realises he "couldn't be bovvered"to back it up
i know what i'll do ..before i tell him i backed it up this afternoon for him ..laugh me rocks off

The problem is if his laptop is connected to your network and is compromised with all sorts of virus and malware then the other computers may be at risk.

Re: firefox won't start
Lock him out of the AV, firewall and anything else he may tweak and don't tell him. It will annoy the heck out of him when he comes against the little grey warning box.....I know it did me.
It may be the only chance you have to irritate him back for all the times he irritates you.

yeah i was going to do that but then thought why the hell should i waste my sunday messing on with his machine when he can't be bothered and doesn't listen to me anyway ,so the next time he loses connection during a vital sesion on face book or msn ..tough he can sort it out himself

My mistake,i thought this...

,remember this was my teenage sons lappy

...meant that it had been your sons but was now yours.
As previous mentioned though i would still think twice about allowing that machine anywhere near your home network if it`s really that bad.
